Excellent companion for reading the books of the Bible
I've really enjoyed this Bible study guide from Rev. Dr. Wes Bixby so far. It is like having a knowledgeable friend guide you, and chat with you, as you go on a journey that you might be uncomfortable taking on your own. Dr. Bixby encourages you to let the books of the Bible speak for themselves and encourages you to experience them yourself and with your family. I feel this is a great approach.

No Better Way to Read the Bible Than This
Where was this book 20 years ago when I made my first attempt to read the Bible in a year? Guaranteed I would not have experienced the failure I did at that time reading the Bible on my own with no guidance or plan except to get through it. From the introduction to the final Family Discussion Guide The Bible in 52 Weeks for Families grasps ahold of the reader and not only opens up doors to understanding the Bible but paves the way to self-understanding and growth as a result of messages in the readings. The passages chosen for each week aren’t always in sequential order. Instead passages are related to one another thematically or historically. In some chapters connections are made between Hebrew scripture and the New Testament. Each week there are discussion questions, guided activities and/or prayers that help the reader relate the themes to one’s life: “Finding your story in the sacred story is part of the grand adventure you and your family are engaging in right now.” (p. 5). Because of the personal and helpful introduction to each chapter, readers feel as though the author is in the room participating in the conversation with them. Unfortunately, my family is scattered all over the United States so I won’t be able to experience the book with them; however, after hearing my excitement from having read an advanced copy of the book from the publisher, a small group of my local friends in a similar situation have said they would like to begin the year-long bible study together on Zoom. One is even a pastor for whom this journey through the Bible won’t be his first, but I guarantee that for him, it will be different, and it will be meaningful--just as it will be for anyone in a family or group that decides to come together to read The Bible in 52 Weeks for Families.Dr. Susan R. Pursue your life story through 52 weeks of family Bible readings
When I pick up a Bible and hold it in my hands the thought of reading, let alone understanding, this big book of scripture – full of stories, history, poetry - is daunting. But now I am much more motivated to try because I have found a graceful and gifted guide – a new book with fifty-two devotions, actions, and assigned Bible readings each week called The Bible in 52 Weeks for Families by Rev. Dr. Wes Bixby.Don’t be deterred by the word ‘family’ if you live alone. Family comes in all sizes and shapes. Some are adults and children living under one roof. Others are scattered around the globe. Or your family could be friends who have become like kin. This book, and the questions with each chapter, are meant to be shared with your family. These discussions will draw everyone closer together and deepen your faith. And there is an action of the week – like for Week 12 – write a psalm! The contents are not linear – but skip back and forth from Old to New Testament. Chapter titles are intriguing and inviting – like Week 12 Permission Slip of the Psalms or Week 32 That is in the Bible? The weekly devotional sets the timbre – Bixby relates personal stories shared from his heart. The readings for that week and the questions gently peruse connecting your life story to scripture.Graphic designs by Heather Krakora enhance the cover and every chapter. All you need is this book, an age appropriate Bible of any translation, and a journal. Then let the awesome adventure begin . . .The publisher provided an advance copy of this book

Delightful Book!
I was provided with an advance copy of this book, and I love it! Each week the Bible passages to be read have a different theme. The author begins each week with thoughts about the passages to be read, and ideas about how the passages relate to issues that we encounter in our everyday lives. Then there are three questions for families to discuss that relate to the passages after they have been read. I like the fact that each week there is a reading for six days, and the seventh day can be used to catch up if needed. Some of the weeks have a guided prayer connected to the week's theme, and some have what the author calls the "Action of the Week," which is an activity for family members to do together. Other weeks have a "Did You Know" section, which adds a little more insight into the week's readings. This book is so delightfully written and creatively arranged that it is inviting to family members of all ages. I love the cheerful illustrations too! I highly recommend this book.
