The importance of the tribe
I was a classmate of the author in Freshman year of law school. I did not know the author well but admired him. About to be drafted I enlisted in the U. S. Army serving about three years and returning to finish law school. Now that I’m retired and my family raised, I have time to read. I have always been concerned about the injustices done to the Indians. The recent unfairness regarding the voting rights of Indians was a major concern for my now reading this book. I the book helps me understand Native American rights.

First edition purchased
Note that I purchased the first edition for a great price. Had to wait for the price to drop, but my copy is clean and, even though aged, still reads well.

One of the best books I have read on Indain American History
One of the best books I have read on Indain American History. Provides an invaluable insight from the Indain American history. Interesting how the two sides do not agree on history, makes you wonder and ask questions. As my mother was 1.2 Cherokee, I have become interested in the histroy of the Indain America. I should have started my research, family histroy much sooner. There is ome much history to read about on bothsides. A must read for all that may have an interest in the American History as most Text books lack enough information as well as correct information about this nation's history.

How do we acknowledge our heritage?
I appreciated the perspective of the author speaking to a largely white readership. He explained the complaints that Native American people have, starting with the initial incursions of European settlers on to present day dealings with federal authorities. Written almost 50 years ago, other reading is needed for an up to date knowledge of the situation of the NA people today
