The Voice of Anfield: My Fifty Years with Liverpool FC

A Briliant read for any Liverpool supporter
I simply loved this book. I feel I have watched the mighty reds with their ups and downs alongside George since I first started going to Anfield back in 1976. This book is nicely written, and it's great hearing these stories from George's pour of view. What makes it even more interesting is the fact that he's a normal, decent bloke who has managed to have these amazing experiences. George is as much a part of my regular trips to Anfield as another aspects of Liverpool; as John Lennon would say some have gone, and some remain. George, and my failing memory, provide the missing link in a wayThanks so much George, and so well done writing this book.Highly recommendedDr Andy Hershon

The Voice of Anfield.
Anyone who has visited Anfield either as a home team or away team will have heard the voice known as the voice of Anfield even at times you will have heard his voice during live television games. In this book George takes us back to the start of his career at Liverpool FC and shares his memories of the good and unfortunately difficult or bad times as well. The book gives us a glimpse at the man so many people will have heard talking but have never seen know matter many games they have been along to see. This is a must read book for any Liverpool FC fan. It was a wonderful book to read and know doubt one I,will read again at some point in time.

Loved this book
LFC have been through so much in the last 50 years and he has been there to see it all!! I really enjoyed reading this book. Since it's release this week I have seen so much incredible support for the book on TV, Radio and Social Media. Congratulations on your 50 years at Anfield and well done for finding the time for putting it all into this book so we can enjoy it too.

Could, and should, have been much better.
Firstly, I’m not a Liverpool fan, I support my local Scottish team, St Mirren, but I’m also a football fan who enjoys reading these types of books about other clubs. George Sephton’s voice is so recognisable to any football fan who has watched Liverpool FC games on TV. I was looking forward to this book, I thought the perspective of the author, - fifty years on the inside of such a famous club would be very interesting. I’m sorry to report I did not enjoy the book very much at all. Here’s why - everything is way too short. The ‘chapters’ are too brief. George’s stories are not afforded time to breathe or expand. Just as you find something that grabs you, it’s off to the next game, or the next chapter. To try and explain - if this book was about England in the Mexico ‘86 World Cup, when you wanted to hear the inside track on the Maradona handball goal, you’d get something like... ‘Maradona punched the ball into the net, the referee allowed it, and England were on their way home’... that would be it. Everything I read in the book followed this sort of pattern. The Liverpool of the Beatles and the Cavern Club, and Liverpool not being a great success, in what seemed like only a few pages, turned to Liverpool winning European trophies and dominating domestically, while Paul McCartney had moved on to Frog Choruses and the Mull of Kintyre... everything was rushed, stories and events should have been delved into far, far deeper than they were. The famous 1974 bust-up between Kevin Keegan and Billy Bremner of Leeds is another example - it was dealt with in about two sentences - ‘Kevin was a nice guy, so Bremner must have said something bad to annoy him so much’... that was about it.If the book was at least a third longer, allowing the stories to develop, breathe, be delved into a lot deeper, it could have been a really enjoyable read. As it is, it’s like briefly skimming over, or skipping past, stuff you wanted to learn more about, read more about, find something about it you never previously knew. From someone within the club, clearly, no-one should expect ‘dirt dishing’ or anything like it. That’s not what I expect or want. I did however expect more than perfunctory recalling of things we already knew. To sum up, in my opinion, much of this book could have been written by anyone. Within or outwith Liverpool FC.

Comfortable reading.
Great read from the very first page to the last, felt like I was there at every game and experiencing the build up ,from being questioned on entry to some of the foreign games to the security at games in the premiership.

excellent read
Truly enjoyed this book. Great stories not only about Liverpool FC over the years but interesting to read about George’s life in Liverpool and the people he has met over the years. I’m a big music fan too and enjoyed hearing about the artists he has known and the music played at Anfield

Brilliant!!
I have bought many good books on Amazon but this is the first I have felt inclined to write a review about. I stood on the Kop for many years and George Sephton’s book brought back many happy memories. What a great job he has done for over 50 years. You should buy this book if you follow Liverpool Fc and maybe even if you’re not.
