McAlpine: Romantic Modernism

I love this book, not only it looks beautiful styled on a coffee table or console it has a beautiful neural hardcover and every page is full of good info and pictures. Would recommend over and over to my clients.

I enjoyed this book. The writing was as poetic as the photography mesmerizing. I would not expect anything less from McAlpine.

This is not just a beautiful coffee table book, it’s also full of lovely design and text.

A fan of traditional design and McAlpine is is one of the best. I like how he melds modern details in a traditional form for inspiring transitional work. Highly recommended.

I’m an avid devotee of architecture and interiors and have always been blown away by Bobby McAlpine’s work. “Poetry of Place” and “The Home Within Us” both draw me back for inspiration again and again. My hopes for “McAlpine: Romantic Modernism” were justifiably high, based on his previous books, but the letdown was immediate and enduring. The only reason I finished it was that it was an expensive purchase. These featured homes are imbued with wonderful symmetry and exquisite materials, but there is a chill of sameness throughout (repetitive color pallet, furniture choices and lighting styles among them). Very little is warm or inviting, and very much seems oppressively wasteful. The interiors include quite a few befuddling decorative objets and quasi-naturalistic collections that make it seem the designers were trying too hard. The final blow was the painfully overwrought text, which self-consciously strove for architectural and philosophical loftiness, but devolved repeatedly into disjointed sentences and meaningless generalizations about truth, faith, identity, joy, materiality and its opposite. I feel terrible reviewing like this, but others need to make an informed decision about spending a lot of money on a book that doesn’t live up to its predecessors.

I agree with other reviewers. A couple stunning moments, but mostly repetition which became boring including the lengthy narratives which lost me 3/4 of the way. As a first timer, I also had high expectations, but was disappointed.

Let's be honest. Everything Bobby McAlpine produces is Spectacular ..his latest book is another win.....Fabulous Designs .Beautuful Photos, Great format..it's a Feast for beauty seekers , design fiends and anyone who loves to be inspired.....a Standing Ovation.

Like every page would by again worth every penny
