If It's Not Scottish........
This is just great stuff. The Germans do a fair job with black currant jam but it's no competition for English and Scottish jam. This is just far better. First, a word on "Sloe Gin" due to apparent confusion in some reviews here. This is not "gin" as in the high octane distilled spirit used in Martinis. This is a very low-alcohol cordial made from "slow berries". The alcohol content is way below that of cooking vanilla and in the process of making jam, the alcohol cooks out, leaving the flavor. This addition does something amazing. It connects the tangy currant flavor with the sweetness of the sugar giving the flavor profile a real "middle" the same way a fine Bordeaux wine does. This jam had a clear beginning, middle and end and it's just fabulous stuff. This is a large jar of premium jam and a good value for money. You'll want to hide this from the kids so they don't make a PBJ sandwich out of it. This is "special occasion jam", like Saturday breakfast. As with all food items, the Scots are big on simple ingredients of the highest quality and this is no exception.

A Tasty Preserve For Fans of Black Currant
Very fresh, wild taste to it. I love black currant preserves, but admit that most of them do taste like they were made out of dried berries. In this preserve with Sloe Gin, some of the berries are whole and juicy and the texture and taste are delightful. The whole berries pop as you bite into them -- very nice fresh experience. I just had some on crackers a moment ago -- it was a treat. At the same time, I want to warn anyone who has not eaten black currant preserves that the natural flavor of black currants is strong and gamey -- a wild berry flavor that not everyone is crazy about. And it is made with Gin (Sloe berries are from another plant, I think a type of Hawthorne? Used to flavor the Gin). I think all the alcohol is evaporated away in the cooking process, but there is a strong flavor - -might be the sloe berries. It is hard to tell, as black currants are strong flavored, and of course will vary from year to year and place to place.I thoroughly enjoyed this preserve and will order it again.

Very flavorful - perfect for our morning toast!
I must admit that we have been buying another brand and in spite of numerous complaints about its lid not secured, we encountered a similar experience - box came in tact and jar was bubbled wrapped but the lid was not secured and jam leaked out. This order with Mrs Bridges was a replacement. It came intact and the lid was tightly sealed (gave a loud “Pop” to indicate it was sealed properly).Black currant jam just as good or better ! I appreciated the fact that I got a follow inquiry from Mrs Bridges about this purchase - shows that they value their customer’s buying experience.

absolutely lovely 💕
This is one of the best blackcurrant preserves I have had to date. It is a little on the sweet side but wonderful nonetheless. The first one I ordered came broken but amazon dealt with it right away and the next day I had a new jar and was enjoying it with toast and tea.

Insistent flavor, lots of berries, luxury item pricing
I like this, but it's not my favorite. There is a very strong bitey, currant flavor and plenty of berries in it, but it doesn't spread easily. It sort of clumps a bit and that can be difficult in a sandwich. I like the addition of the sloe gin flavor with the black currants, very nice against a mild peanut butter actually. At this price point, I will consider this a luxury and certainly not a regular or daily use jam.

This is delicious!
My girlfriend grew up in Poland and one of her favorite memories is blackcurrant preserves. I bought this to surprise her with something from her childhood and she loved it! It immediately took her back to Poland and her childhood! As for me I had never had blackcurrant and I can say I eat this at lease 3 times a week!

The second best black currant preserves…
I've ever had! Not bad praise since I've had at least a hundred different brands. I'm NOT hard to buy for… no matter what my family and friends say. Just find a great jam, jelly or preserves made with black currant or a most anything made with them. As soon as I received this jar, I ordered two more. The best was some from a little shop across from Bunratty Castle that was made with Naval rum. I've really tried to find more but this is a close second. I think the fruit needs a little alcohol to keep it from being too tart… or something. I'm not an epicurean or a gourmet, but I do know what I want in a spread.
