Niles SSVC-4 Speaker Selector, Black

Very pleased with this simple and elegant solution. If you don't need a fancy multi-room audio solution with individual volume controls and multiple source select in each room, the Niles SSVC4 may be just what you're looking for. Nice look, and the knobs have a solid feel to them. It allows you to control the volume and turn on or off the speakers in four rooms (there's also a six room model). We have a small house, so it's not inconvenient to walk into the living room to make adjustments in speaker volume. I wired it up to to the second zone amplifier on my Denon receiver to drive speakers in the kitchen, dining room, deck, and basement. The speaker wires connect to a plug with screw-posts that in turn is plugged into the device, which simplifies installation in tight spots. With the individual volume controls I can adjust different relative levels in each room from one location. The one thing to be careful about is that Niles does not recommend using this device with amplifiers rated over 100 Watts, so if you need to drive multiple speakers at high volume with a powerful amplifier, you need to look elsewhere. Comes with pre-printed stick-on labels for a wide range of rooms, including "Dungeon," which gave me a laugh. I like the simplicity of only having to run speaker wires to each location. If you think you might be annoyed having to walk over to this device to adjust the volume in individual rooms, this might not be the right solution.

The first unit I received did not provide output on the right side of the fourth pair of speakers.The unit was replaced by Amazon without question. I received the replacement and shipped the faulty unit back.The replacement works flawlessly.The Niles speaker selector is attractively designed and it is very easy to connect and set up. Each pair of the four speaker sets can be controlled independently volumewise and one, two, three or four of the pairs of speakers can be operated simultaneously without any degradation. I would recommend the device and purchasing it through Amazon.

Like the controller. Tried to send in the registration card, but it was returned for insufficient address. Called Niles. Was disconnected during the first attempt. Found out on the second call that they have not used the registration cards for awhile and that I have an old unit. I like the knowledge of the tech people at Niles as I had some questions before I made the purchase, but am not happy it is old and now I am wondering if this unit was reconditioned. Not sure if this is a Niles problem or an Amazon problem.

Bought this for a technophobe friend whose home audio system, with speakers in his living room, kitchen, and out on the deck was an absolute disaster. The only audio from his kitchen speakers came from his TV, for example. Got rid of everything but his amp, disc player, and Sirius Radio, ran the sound from the amp to the the Niles Selector, and he's happy as can be. (Full disclosure: I separated the TV completely and connected a good sound bar with wireless sub to it. He loves that, too.) The separate volume controls and the pre-printed labels for each control are great. There were cheaper models available, but Niles quality assured me that this device would work well--and it does.

This volume control is easy to install. No power needed. Room selection is great and easy to use. It would be better if the volume control had rheostat knob instead of 10 levels, but all-in-all a great control.

easy to install, but wish the captive screws were a little bigger, hard to screw in and to find a screwdriver small enough, have one but it is scrapes the inside of the holes where the tiny screws are

The throughput is top notch. Easy to setup, solid built. May buy another one.

Great unit, allows me to select which speakers I want to listen to and at what volume. The lower power rating is a bit of a disappointment and it would be great to see a unit that had these capabilities along with remote control. But for the price, it does the job.
