WEN DW5084 5-Amp 2-in-1 Variable Speed Dual-Head Drywall Sander with 15-Foot Dust Hose , Black

This sander lives up to the advertising, good power, good dust collection using a shop-vac and good features. I watched several YouTube videos on this sander before purchasing and most all were pretty much accurate in my experience. The sander seems to have plenty of power even when using 60 grit sanding disks as I never had it bog down. Dust collection with a shop-vac is very, very good, but as I saw in videos when everything is turned off and you rotate the unit sanding head down there will be some dust fall out. You do have to have a vacuum for dust collection, but it will run without it if you can stand the dust! The difference between sanding with a manual pole sander and this WEN unit when connected to a shop-vac are night and day! I have a basement to finish out and just doing a room previously, there was dust everywhere and I was trying to figure out how I was going to keep all that dust from getting upstairs. Using this WEN sander and a good shop-vac has alleviated my concern almost completely! A couple of things to know: the unit is slightly heavy and you will need to rest or switch arms occasionally and the On/Off switch is a little too easy to switch OFF accidently. The unit has one extension section if you have high walls or ceiling work and also a shoulder strap for the ceiling work to take some of the strain off your arms. I would bump the switch moving my hand around while moving the sanding head on the wall and turn the unit off and I think it just needs a slightly better location or more recessing to correct that. This WEN sander has delivered on its advertising promises and I'm happy with it and the results. I can recommend this product!

Using it to take down sponged mud texture on the ceilings. I will skim coat mud on top, so I'm not particularly concerned about final finish, using 60 grit discs. Overall the performance is fine, after a modification suggested by another reviewer: Attach a small (1-1/4") hose directly to the head. The difference is amazing, all because Wen did not make this with a 1-1/4" tube handle. As is, the dust collection air travels down the handle, which is narrow and leaky. With the vacuum hose connected directly to the head, there really is almost no dust escaping, even when you lift the head from the surface with the disc spinning. With the original setup, dust regularly dumps out when you lift the head. Also, people complain that this does not include a dust collector. That's crazy, especially for the price. To do this right, you need a centrifugal separator and a strong vacuum. A shop vac will work, but a centrifugal separator takes it to the next level. I ended up with over an inch of dust in the bottom of my separator, and only shook the vacuum (ordinary household Hoover) bag once to restore air flow at the end. Be prepared for a sore shoulder and upper arm if you're working on a ceiling. I have not tried the triangle head. I am skeptical and have a half sheet pad sander I'll use for the edges (the rotating head gets within 1/2") and corners. It's a bit of a chore to get set up and to get used to, but after a 7' x 6' ceiling I've got the hang of it and am favorably impressed.

This dual head sander is a real time-saver and produces great results. The only downfall is that the backing pad for the round head wears out quickly. The backing pad is made with soft rubber/foam around the sides as this is needed fir stability and control of the unit. I wasted 1 backing pad and 1 sheet of sandpaper to sand 1 bathroom which did not require much sanding. Backing pads are about $11 on Amazon. To me it is worth $11 per room in order to use this. It is a great tool. I have been a General Contractor for more than 25 years and I am well satisfied with this sander and would buy it again. Also, I used the triangle head for all corners and that pad did not wear out. I only used 1 piece of sandpaper for each head and they are both still very good. The manufacturer needs to include a carry bag for this unit as it is difficult to find something to carry it in. The motor had sufficient power and speed. The slower speeds are all that you need. I used the big 3/4 horsepower shop vac with a drywall dust bag inside and it caught 99% of the dust. The only dust that I had was when you remove the head from the wall and it falls to the floor. I was in a small bathroom with the door closed and a towel under the door to seal the room. There was no dust to be seen in the air. The package arrived on time as it should. I love this tool as it makes my life much easier. The instructions are not very clear on changing the heads but I figured it out.

I have walls and ceilings that are all painted the same color with high gloss paint over knock down orange peel texture. I hate it all. I bought this to remove as much as I could. First thought, it is not very aggressive. I ended up getting 40 grit (off brand) sand paper and it still wasn't enough on the highest speed to get to the drywall. It works, and it is a lot better than doing it by hand or a smaller sander. I was really hoping not to skim coat too much, but I ended up with two passes on ever surface. I used the 150 grit that came with it for that. Second thought, the "dust collection" is a huge miss. It does keep a lot of the dust in the head, until you remove it from the surface. Then it dumps out everywhere. There is no suction at the head with what you are provided. Even with a 6.5HP vacuum there is little to no collection. ONE OF THE ISSUES IS THE HOSE. The hose leaks badly on both ends. As I was rinsing out everything I noticed that the ends are not sealed and leak water. If they leak water, they leak air. You leak air, you lose suction. I don't regret buying this, it's made my remodeling easier. But the suction is terrible. I will try doing what others suggested in connecting my good hose to the actual head, bypassing the handle and the included hose.

I bought this with the purpose of sanding off some popcorn ceilings in my home. It worked well for sanding off the ceiling texture, but sucked almost nothing up. The sanding head would just be filled with dust that would dump out everywhere as soon as it was tilted. It honestly made more of a mess than if I were to spray it with water and scrape it. Even attaching it to a 6.5 HP shop vac, there was minimal suction. I didn’t really feel any suction through the holes in the sander head. I would’ve returned it honestly if it hadn’t been past the return window. It’s a poor product.

The WEN DW5084 drywall sander has made my drywall projects so much easier. The 5-amp motor is powerful enough to handle rough patches quickly, and the dual-head design lets me switch between the round head and the triangular head for corners and edges without needing another tool. The variable speed control is great for adjusting power depending on the surface, and the 15-foot dust hose works well with my shop vac to keep the mess under control. It’s surprisingly lightweight for its size, and the adjustable handle makes it comfortable to use for longer periods. Overall, it’s a well-built, reliable sander that does the job fast and leaves a smooth finish. Definitely worth it for anyone tackling drywall, ceilings, or large wall prep jobs.

I've never used a power drywall sander, but I've manually sanded since the 70's. I have a vacuum-attached Marshalltown pad sander, no pole just hand held, that's faster than this. No idea what anyone needs all the finer grit sizes for. It leaves no sanding marks even with 60 grit, but it's slow. Further, the paper only seems to cut well for a little while, though it feels fine to the touch. A new disc helps a little. I wind up really bearing down on it, and to Wen's credit, the motor only slows slightly. But isn't this supposed to make the job faster and easier? Once I removed the handle extension and saved a foot of length it was at least easier to handle. Being 6'3" I can easily reach a full 8' wall without the extension, but still it's clumsy sanding down low. The weight of the motor at the end isn't nearly the issue I expected it to be, but the motor blowing in my face isn't helpful. Maybe add an air deflector? The hose is just junk. It came pre-kinked in the box, although that doesn't seem to hamper the vacuum, and a Craftsman shop vac with the fine dust bag works well. But the hose is heavy, not easy to handle, and just drags along. The swivel is at the far end and does little to help. A molded plastic hose like on modern shop vacs (and on the Marshalltown sander) would be light and compliant without kinking. The switch is just an abomination. For that alone I regret this purchase, even if the machine itself were otherwise perfect. Once I figured out how to slide it forward against its lock and then convince it to stay on, it's still far too easy to hit and shut off the sander. Sometimes I fight it with two hands to get it on, and the only time it's not easy to turn it off is when I'm trying to shut it off Sometimes I have to look at the switch and try a couple of ways to shut it off. The designer should be ashamed of that thing. If I don't just throw this machine out I'll have to figure out a better switch or just wire this one out and put a switch in the cord. All together, a waste of money and time. I'm finishing this big job with my hand sander. To think I eagerly waited the week it took for Amazon's 2-day delivery. Wish there was a satisfaction guarantee. I'm not satisfied.

This works so good. Saved a ton of time and almost completely dust free. Has a very nice articulating head with a brush on the edge that keeps you from digging in. I’ve only used the round head with fine sand paper. I wish it had some adapters to more vacuum hose sizes, but I just had to duct tape a fitting from the shop vac.

The triangle-shaped head is too stiff on the rotation and creates a line on the surface on the edge of the angle.
