Gorgeous "overview" book!
This book is packed with amazing images depicting the evolution of of art, from painting, sculpture, photography, music, and dance - from ancient to modern times. The photographs in this book are gorgeous, but none of the topics are covered in detail (this is an "overview" book). I highly recommend this book.I hope you find my review helpful!

A great introduction for kids
I bought this book for my 10-year-old granddaughter and it has been a great purchase. She is an advanced reader and very mature. It provided just enough basic information, mixed with some fascinating trivia and beautiful pictures of the art that we both came away with new knowledge and understanding, and a sense of the timeline of art history. The best part is that it introduces ancient art forms that young people may not have thought of as art, paving the way for them to view the art world in new ways.

Great art book for an intelligent 12 year old and older.
Great art appreciation/history book. I bought this as a Christmas gift for a neighbor's 12 year old daughter. This book is age appropriate for an intelligent 12 year old and older. She's going to love it.

High-quality but not comprehensive
I love the book. It’s beautiful. It has high-quality photos. I like how it goes through the subject matter starting with the principles of art before getting into famous work. It mostly focuses on painting, but it does have sections for sculpture, photography, music, and dance. I am however very, unhappy that they used the wave of Kanagawa as they’re back cover art, and it’s not covered once in the book. Seems like kind of a slight.

This is a very high quality soft side book. The images are sharp and have strong colors. The different art categories are well documented. I bought this for my granddaughter, who is interested in art and will explore the subject in great depth with this fine book….

Beautiful book but can cover more.
The book is beautiful and has a good summary of many types of art. Although it can definitely cover more types and more breadth within each art type. They did a good job for Painting, but others lack breadth such as Music, none of the modern music genres are covered. Ceramics can also be included and elaborated next to Sculpture, as it is an amazing art form. There's more to like Dance, Photography and even blacksmithing and wood-carving too.
