Laugh To The Point Of Needing Physical Therapy
One of the most fantastically hilarious, well delivered, tongue in cheek comedies I have ever seen. Truly a favorite I've seen more times than I can count. This is a treasure to rival your collection of Precious Moments figurines in tranquil poses of prayer, and you'll want a stuffed Jesus on a cross to carry the irreverent sin of your laughter straight to purgatory or hell, depending on if you were able to get the express line or not. Some of the scenes were so insanely funny, I swear you'll laugh until you pull a muscle or pop a rib, or maybe even poop a little. Really. I kid you not. You will need a pack of Luckys and some Schlitz as Christie Alley pulls off one of the best roles (IMHO) of her career, and Allison Janney shows amazing work, among everyone else's magnificent and tight performance. Filmed as a mockumentary, you'll never look at a hot dish or a pack of smokes or a beauty pageant again without tearing up and just readying for the drama you know will ensue.

Great movie - if you can find it
This movie is a great classic that has a number of good stars that do a great job - even Denise Richards! (somewhat kidding). It's more or less a mock documentary about a beauty pageant, the contestants (and families of) & judges. Solid cast (as said above) from Kirsten Dunst, Amy Adams, Brittany Murphy, Ellen Barken, Allison Janney, Kirstie Alley and more.As long as you're not looking for a 'serious' movie to watch, and want to have some great laughs, this won't disappoint. I can't imagine how many takes some of these scenes took.I'm not going to give a lot away about the movie - just rest assured that if you're into comedies and enjoy having some good laughs, then I wouldn't hesitate to pick this up if you can find it. Even after a few dozen viewings, and being 15 years old, this has aged gracefully. I highly recommend this classic, under appreciated film.

One of the funniest movies ever seen.......
What a good movie! It's the kind of movie you have to watch a couple/three more times because of all that is missed during the continuous laughter. It's not just the dialog that's funny. Look around in the background of the scenes .... there are funny antics going on there, too! There is a beauty pageant happening right there in a little town in Minnesota. 'You betcha' Kirstie Alley plays her part so well, as the mother of one of the contestants & a previous pageant winner herself. Ellen Barkin is Hillarious as a mother of another contestant, Kirsten Dunst! And then there is Allison Janney, an ever supporting aunt of Miss Dunst, who loves men as much as she loves a cold drink. Denise Richards, Who is, none other than the daughter of a previous winner & an organizer of the pageant, Kirstie Alley. There are many of little plots within the plot happening. It pays to watch it a few times.

Hasn't really aged at all
This is the funniest damn movie. Sort of surprised it's so hard to find. Great cast, both dark and light sense of humor, one of the first mockumentary films to come along in the 90's along with Waiting For Guffman. You get Amy Adams in her first film along with Denise Richards laying on the smugness really thick. Kirstie Ally is hilarious along with 2 ladies from SNL. Kirsten Dunst: wow. Brittney Murphy, Ellen Burstyn, Will Sasso, etc. I'm sure I'm misspelling names, but it's quite an impressive cast and well-written witty script. There's a lot of good chemistry between the cast members at all levels. Don't watch if you actually like beauty pageants and don't think they have any latent flaws. Hah!

Great Movie
Great Mockumentary and superb cast! You can watch this 100 times and see something you missed the other 99 times! Not politically correct and some may not like the stereotyping humor but... It is a Mockumentary and meant to poke fun at itself!Enjoy!

Hits & Misses
There's s lot to like about this flawed movie set in the tacky, implausible, oh-so American world of teenage beauty pageants, not least its mostly fine cast, in particular Kirsten Dunst as one of the nicer girls in the contest, and the too often underrated Denise Richards as the ambitious, bitchy one.Along for the bumpy, hectic ride are Ellen Barkin as Kirsten's messed-up mum, brilliant Allison Janney as her mum's likeably vulgar friend, Kirstie Alley superb as Denise's horrendous mother, and a young and bubbly Amy Adams, in her debut, as one of the other contestants. As a comedy, it could have been both wittier and funnier, as a drama it needed to be tighter, with a more disciplined screenplay, and with a less busy, less chaotic structure. Some good satirical points are almost made, but don't quite hit home.Still, it's worth seeing once, and Dunst and Janney are always worth one's time.

This film doesn't get enough recognition
Loved this when it came out and bought to watch with my sister for old times' sake, but expected to cringe a fair bit. However it stands up to the test of time and had us laughing from start to end, easily Allison Janney's most underrated role 'Can one of boys gimme a ride home?' 'Don't listen to her she lives like, two trailers down' 'So? Be real easy'.

Sharp and observant and so, so funy
Everyone is well cast in this film. Kirsty Ally is excellent as is Alison Janney (what an under rated actress). Ellen Barkin was hilarious too - a natural drunk! The 'docu-drama' feel to the film is pitch perfect and its camp, sad, funny and heart warming all at once and probably very true in the ghastly "only in America" world of teen beauty contests. This DVD is a keeper for the collection because it will be worth a second, third and fourth viewing. It truly is funny.

dead funny
really funny fake documentary about a teen queen pageant In Minnesota with some outrageous black comedy moments. The one problem though is I found I had to keep turning the volume up to hear what they were saying in parts(and no I have very good hearing which marred the enjoyment rather)

Unforgettable. Great Acting. Gorgeously Funny.
I've always enjoyed this movie. Very, very funny. Superbly cast and at times, gloriously politically incorrect. It's so refreshing to have an American comedy, which has such good characters and an inspired script to match.
