Great concept. Had difficulty with it initially in it holding the sapling that I was trying to pull out of the ground. Did some self engineering and replaced the original spring with a stronger one. Works much better this way, however with the stronger spring the amount of force required to open it to secure the Grabber is greatly increased, therefore leading to issues with hand.

Does not work for buckthorn.
I bought this tool in the hope that I could use it on the hundreds of small buckthorn seedlings that are growing up in my yard. I'm tall, so bending over and pulling them by hand is a chore. I have a Weed Wrench for larger stems (which works like a charm) but it is heavy and unwieldy for small plants. This tool simply did not work. The two gripping surfaces have pointed projections on them to grip the plant, but they did not mate flat, so it didn't grip the smaller stems tightly. Often it would only strip the bark and leaves off the entire stem, leaving the roots in the ground. Buckthorn will resprout from the roots, so this tool was of no use. I ended up returning it.

Excellent tool
Little weeds pull by hand easily, and this tool would not get a grip on those. But the bigger ones that make the back ache are just right for this tool. It grabs and twists and has a good handle so you can pull the roots out. Excellent for big weeds and small bushes.

A bark stripper or grabber?
Piece of junk and worthless. I had bought the Brush Grubber BG-08 Heavy-duty a month back and it worked very nicely as advertised; a great deal thus far. I ignored some of the reviews on this item hoping the same usefulness, but this cant hold anything smaller than what the original grubber grabs. I tried up to a size that could reasonably be expected to pull out by hand effort (up to nearly 3/4 inch) and all it ever did was slide up the piece being pulled and 'debarking' it. Would love to find something that grabs and pulls out 1/4 to 1/2 inch items. The spring in handle seems to need some manual effort to close after opening - it does not pull back into place; but did not try a great deal past the 30 minutes spent attempting for it to latch and hold ANYTHING!

The grip head has a lot to be desired. They could have been a little more in line with each other. When you try to grab a small bush it does not have enough gripping surface that meets each other.

works great.
works great, it grabs trees that are tougher than I am. I also have the tractor pulled version and the chain type, so all situations are covered.

Does not work on scotch broom
The large teeth slip off woody weeds like scotch broom. The spring is not strong enough to hold the weed. You have to press the release handle DOWN to get a strong enough grip to pull well rooted weeds. There is not enough leverage to pull larger items. Plain old Vice Grips work much better.
