Revived a 2012 Macbook Pro
After my original Hard Drive cable went on the fritz on my 2012 Macbook Pro, I replaced it with the part# 821-1480-a from another vendor. Neither lasted more than a few seconds. It's a faulty design that can't stand up to the bend it requires. I then ordered the updated design—part # 821-2049-a—from SUNMALL and noticed the subtle differences. It's reinforced and a little bit longer than the older part so it doesn't fit snug against the optical drive. You'll need to place some electrical tape on the metal parts of the case that this cable makes contact with to prevent further damage, but once you do that, it should last. Will report back if it fails but I"m extremely happy. Make sure you order the 2049 model if you're repairing a 2012 Macbook Pro

Make sure you know the falacies of the macbook
Installed months ago to replace the original worn-down cable that was causing macbook to be super slow in responsiveness (constant spinning rainbow wheel). The old (and possibly new) cables die after a while by design due to design issues with the macbook construction. Later attached to a new SSD, working fast now! This '2049' cable is the IMPROVED version of the older original cable model (821-1480). Better but still susceptible to the wear-issues.I cannot include external links, but make sure of the following:1. ADD ELECTRICAL TAPE TO THE CORRECT SPOTS TO PREVENT RECURRING WEAR! To do this, search for this video on Youtube: "MacBook Pro Hard Drive Cable Failure - Free fix and preventative maintenance - Question mark" by 'Brue Computing'. It will explain the issue and where to put the tape to prevent future issues.2. Google 'HDD/SSD Install Video OWC from MacSales' to see how to actually get to the cable. I suggest adding a new SSD while you're at it if you're still using the original drive (huge performance improvement).3. Also suggest adding tape to the bends, and be very careful when making the 90 degree bends as this is where most breaks occur. After the cable change things worked great, backed up drive, then decided to upgrade the mid-2012 MacBook Pro to an SSD + 16GB RAM. Also updated to Mojave. Considering it's 2020 now, it's working faster than new, everything is zippy.

Did not fit A1278 as described.
I purchased this quite a while ago to repair an older mb pro, but didn't get around to making a review until now. This cable is like 1-2mm too short to properly attach. By putting some tension on it and doing a bit of dremel work to part of the hard drive mount, I got it to fit, but it's definitely not going to last, as the amount of tension on it visibly deforms the ribbon cable and that stress is going to cause it to fail. Luckily, I only needed this to temporarily revive the computer, and it did it's job, but I 100% do not recommend this product for an A1278. I suppose there's a vague chance that I was sent the wrong product, but it looks identical to the photos, and looked very, very close to the original, aside from being too short.

Did exactly what I needed it to do.
Did exactly what I needed it to do.These hard drive cables have ribbon cables inside and they just have a black coating over them in overtime some of those interior very thin metal cables can get a break in them causing the computer not to recognize the hard drive. That’s what happened with my old cable and this was a perfect replacement for that completely fixed my issue as I knew it would. Came with everything I need and it’s very sturdy and very well-made. I will definitely buy this brand again if I need another one down the road.

Great Price - Reliable Product - SDD Compatible
Had the infamous circle with a line through it on my mac and was able to get the problem fixed with this cable. This is the second time since owning my mac that this problem has occurred, so I knew to purchase a cable, rather than attempt to fix/replace the hard drive. The price is right, the installation was pretty simple, and it has worked well for me so far. Hopefully it stands the test of time, but for the price, I have little to complain about it if gives out in a year or two. I recommend this product if your mac won't boot and/or read your hard drive. Make sure you buy the correct cable, so it fits your setup. They have multiple options for this type of cable. I would look at the product number written on the current cable in your computer and buy the one that matches your number. (P.S. It works for my SDD, something I was a little concerned about before purchasing.)

This wire is made fragile and is not the quality that I expected
Normally for a wire like this I would say it did just what I expected it to but in this case it did not. It was very flimsy and it fell apart while I was trying to install it. It’s still worked but the LED light on it fell off and it no longer had the LED light on it anymore. I thought it was made very fragile and cheap and is not what I would expect from this kind of wire. It’s not what I would expect from this company either.

Hard to Install but they work
After replacing this ribbon cable, it turned out not to be what was causing my problem and I had to get a new hard drive also. These work and replacing them is doable for the average person.

Worked perfectly the first time!
This cable worked like a charm. From start to finish replacing the cable was about 20 minutes. The only tricky part is connecting the IR sensor on the front bracket of the hard drive tie-down to the small rigid board on the end of the flex cable. I am not sure if there is an easier way to do it but the flex cable is super small and takes good eyes and a steady hand.
