There is a bleed through stain on the inner cover. The paper and the leather have a weird odor. Has a cheap feel and smell. Would not recommend. O.k. if you're on a budget. UPDATE: I put three dryer sheets in the book. One between front cover and first page, one in the middle, and the third sheet between last page and back cover. Also, made an oil blend with coconut oil and rubbed down all the leather. The book smells amazing. I'm going to give another week just to be sure the funky odor is gone.I do like this book and have some ideas how to eliminate or disguise the stain inside the cover. The pages take ink well. Overall, this book isn't bad. Just a little light on quality control.

This is the 5th leather journal (4 10×7 & 1 6x8) purchased from Amazon. I was used to the lockable ones with the handmade paper type. This one is set up different and created a unique experience just in the positioning. Just a few things first, many are saying things like, there is a bleed thru on the inside cover, it isn't really refillable, the accent on the front is just painted leather not actual stone advertised. There were a few others.. but I wanted to address these statements in particular.1. Cover bleed through- This one made me laugh. The front piece is NOT glued on as with others, it is woven and mechanically attached. So therefore, there will be holes.. any intellectual human being knows if there are holes, the eyes WILL seep through. Its the physics of liquid. That being said, yes there is alittle as shown in previous pix posted.2. Really isn't reliable. Anyone that has purchased these type journals know that this is a no & yes question. It depends on you. It is refillable, you just have to follow the directions to carefully do it.3. The front decorative piece. Its really not difficult to tell the difference between leather and rock. This is a rock but it does have a protective top coat. Just like when we do our nails ladies. A top coat protects the design. Hello!! I think we live in such a manufactured world now, some are mistrustful of anything that claims to be genuine or hand made. Doesn't bode well for our society. I'm currently using this for a journal/newspaper scrapbook. The paper is thicker and works well with any type of pen/pencil/carcoal/marker/ect. (I have not tried it out with watercolours or any paints) Holds up really well with paste sticks/glue dots/tape ect. I'm pleased with the purchase.

I love this and plan to get more when the time comes. Always condition or oil the leather when you get it. Sometimes several times. Mine looked beautiful when I was finished oiling it. I will probably do it periodically as time goes on to keep it supple. The paper is heavy enough for ink or drawing. It's all around great. The stone is nice in the middle of the book. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I’ve gotten 10+ of these journals from a few Amazon sellers. I’ve gotten worse, but I’ve definitely gotten better as well. The top book is one from a similar seller on Amazon, the bottom is the book for this review. They both had stains from the circle design in the leather, it’s to be expected, this one wasn’t that bad. The book I just ordered has these weird intentions in the paper as well as scratches, it’s hard to tell in the photo but they’re pretty deep and dented a few pages into the book. The cover also has some pen stains, I assume it’s a returned item? Otherwise someone’s flailing around blue pens in this factory because this isn’t the first one I’ve gotten like this. I’m still going to use it and it’s very beautiful (especially for the price), I wouldn’t take the chance getting this particular one as a gift for someone

I am absolutely in love with this journal. It came just as I had hoped. The stone on the front is in fact a stone, not painted leather like others have said. I tested it by tapping with my nail. There is a stain inside the front cover, but I think it adds character. The clasp works smoothly. All in all a very beautiful piece within itself.

so after reading a lot of questionable reviews, I was a little worried about buying. But I've to say I don't understand why people are upset. The price was fantastic. The pages are beautiful the leather work is very nice. But I love the more hand made look to this. The only thing I'm not really in love with is the stone. It's just not very pretty. But I'd definitely recommend this journal.

Beautiful journal. Gave to my high school aged cousin as a Secret Santa gift, so she can use it for her artwork. She thought the clasp was very neat, and I thought everything about it was very high quality. I almost didn't purchase because I was worried about the binding and the pages not laying flat enough for her to work, but the binding is surprisingly good. Absolutely would buy this again, and maybe will for myself.

This is my second purchase of a leather bound journal from Jaald. I was very pleased with my first, tree of life design journal, as I found it had the larger page size I wanted. Most other leather journals are much smaller and not so competitively priced. The quality of the journal is excellent. The paper has been suitable for acrylics, water colours, distressed inks, penwork and robust enough for collage. The real leather cover has been much admired.As I have two thirds filled this first journal I purchased the second, knowing the product would be reliable. I chose the inset stone version because it had the same large page size and slightly more pages and because it was different from my first.It was as expected a high quality product at a very reasonable price and I look forward to using it.

I ordered this notebook yesterday and received it today, which was outstanding because it said it was out of stock and would come on 1st July. It is well made for the price - many pages of good quality paper, a luxurious feel and a well-made latch which is not too tight or loose to open and close, and the back and front covers have lots of excellent detail and embossing. That said, it is a little messily put together - you can see where the different sections of pages were put in (though this isn't a big problem because it's refillable), the edges of the leather are starting to peel, nothing is hemmed, the leather latch-strap is rather poorly made (wonky press studs, unevenly cut) and the inside isn't lined so leaves a brown stain on the first and last pages. A lot of this can be forgiven though because of the reasonable price and ye olde notebooke look to it. Overall, I am happy with what is a very attractive and magical looking book. The stone (perhaps some sort of crystal?) is extremely well secured and high quality and the overall look is exactly as displayed. I would by no means be embarrassed to gift it, and am very happy it is my new notebook.

I have decided to keep this journalI like the size perfect for my needsThe reason for the 3 stars were due to the bleeding of the leather dye on the front page and on each of the separate sections of the pages, resulting in smudges and finger prints. Also a corner of the pages arrived bent.That said I like the look and feel and decided that it is a unique product and as such I should expect some imperfections maybe I will, as I use it, respect it’s origins

I love this book.It looks fantastic, is sturdy, well made and the paper is good quality, thick parchment type paper.I'm learning a new language and am making my notes in it. It isn't something that I will throw away even when it is full with writing.I will definitely be getting something else from this seller.

It is a lovely hand made book . Paper is of excellent old style quality , and i love the stone . My only wish was that it was big enough for A4 paper or that it was A4 size . The reason is , is that i was prompted by a friend in the media to write my life story Though i am mostly disabled now , I have lived an amazing life . If not witnessed by others , would not be believed . But it will mostly focus on the here and now . my animals that i raised and the magical way we are linked . Two highly trained american Akitas , Thirty Crows that i helped raise from babies . A baby gull that is adopted by the crows and is their look out at times he is full grown now . and each of those birds can call for help from many many more , and the sky grows black with birds . Alfred Hitchcock would be amazed at this . All of which came about when i saved a small crow i call Snippy , in a storm called Freya . She still cant fly . hedge hogs , and a wasp i trained to come when called and land on my finger . also a magpie called Dodger , becouse he's a thieving little so and so . So a reporter is coming to write about this in the spring . And the fact that i have had entanglements with gangs and my dog and the birds got and still do get envoled in these events needs to be documented . When she comes here to do this i would like to be writing my own personal life story in old style scroll colligraphy . any way the wrest of this is for what will be written .If i told you i was also blind for seven years and got back my eyesight 4 years ago , think about that . This lovely book i'm going to put notes in as a diary of this , in pencil , incase of mistakes . IF you could do me an A4 one , even just the leather cover with the art work pressed in . and a Crows head , and a Wolfs head pressed in the front cover , that would be brilliant . all of this gets written into my life story by the reporter . I also talk on the radio about my experiences at times , Howard Hughes talk radio . The book i had from you is lovely , and i worry about using it as it is the only one . Thank you though .
