Won't Submerse Again, but Love the App & Tracker!
After reading the numerous reviews and looking at other activity monitors I decided to go with the Misfit Shine as I wanted something that would integrate with my business clothing, provide accurate readings for activities, monitor my sleep cycle, and I really wanted something that was waterproof. I have my hands in water all the time, especially when I get home to tend to my infant daughter. Between spills, cleaning bottles, baths, hand washing, etc., my hands should be prunes all day long. I also have extremely tiny wrists (think child like), and needed something that wouldn't jangle around on my wrist loosely or disrupt my desk work (believe me when I say I've had bracelets on that like to somehow attach their selves to file cabinets, or get caught somehow on paperwork), and yet I also needed something that wasn't heavy either. So I went with the Misfit Shine, and so far I'm quite happy in my choice. The Misfit Shine Activity and Sleep monitor comes with one black band, the Misfit tracker device in the color you choose, the battery, the attachment for the wrist band to hold the tracker more securely, and a small tool to help raise the back piece to insert the battery. Upon opening the box, I immediately took of the backing of the tracker using the tool, placed the battery in, closed it, and wah-la! Instant tracker ready to go! Placing the tracker in the band is easy, it just pops in, and the attachment clasps into the wrist band on either side of the tracker in the back to better hold it in place. I had already downloaded the Misfit app to my mobile device, and easily opened it up, and pressed the sync button to get started. The lights flash prettily around the Misfit tracker while it syncs, and once that is complete you are done! It's that easy to install. No waiting for your device to charge, no wires, no searching for outlets, nothing! Just place the battery in, and you're ready to hit the gym!As for use of the device...I love it! The band is very thin, not bulky at all, and easily fits on my wrist thanks to the many hole's the band has in it for fitting. I'm at the second to last hole so I can have just a little give to it without it being so tight, and I did purchase three other bands to help coordinate my wardrobe. Yes...I'm a girl, and I love to match. Currently I'm sporting the white band with the grey tracker, and it's sporty yet fashionable. The Misfit is super light so my arm is weighed down at all, and because of the rubber material I don't have to worry about my sensitive skin getting irritated by the band.Again, this is a no charging device, which really had me sold as I already have enough things to worry about without having to remember to charge my tracker. Now when it comes to the actual app I have to say it's pretty nice. When you open the app it will ask you questions on your activity and you can click any that apply, which for me was walking and running, plus you can tell it how lazy you are, which will put a point system in place for you. Reaching the full amount of the "points" is what your goal is for the day. After that has been set up you can easily sync it if it doesn't start already by sliding your finger to the left on your mobile device. Once the lights start going around on the tracker you know it's doing it's job. The activity portion of the app consist of showing you an average total of current points, the amount of miles you averaged, the calories burned, and the number of steps taken all on the first screen. Right below that, still in view without swiping is the activity remaining for you to reach your goal for the day, and it also shows how long you'd have to do it for, such as walk for 45 minutes or run for 15 minutes.Swiping up will also show you your sleep pattern for the night, and I truly love this feature! With getting up with an infant for night feedings it really let's me see her pattern also. You might wonder how accurate this is, but since I'm up during the night, and constantly checking the time for her feeding schedule, I can say that this is very, very accurate. And I love the fact that it shows how long you were awake, the amount of light sleep you had and the amount of restful sleep you had. It also has a nice graph highlighting which areas are which for a better understanding of your sleep schedule. You can also change how you view your date by clicking the button on the top left corner, which will change everything into a graph mode, time line mode, or the default mode. The button on the right hand corner only shows sleep, and if you click it it simply shows you the data that swiping up will show you. There's definitely more features in the app, such as tagging the activity your about to start, which includes a list of activities such as running, cycling, tennis, basketball, swimming, soccer, and sleeping. It also shows you the Misfit Shine's battery life. I do use this device on an elliptical machine, and it works just fine still counting my activity for the day. This also features a "light up" clock, and double tapping on the device will display a few lights, then it will flash for the one's you need to focus on, however, I find I still get confused using this feature.I would have given this a straight up five star review, but the first, yes first, Misfit tracker I received was defective. One splash of water, and apparently my device wasn't as waterproof as described. I had showered with the device, and no issues, but I did bath my infant daughter in the tub, and the next day it was dead. I did check that my device was securely closed, and it was; however water apparently still got in. I did contact the Misfit company, and they readily replaced my Shine for a new one. I'm not crazy enough to try using it again totally submersed in water, which takes away the one feature I did love most about it...being waterproof. That being said, it could be as Misfit claimed, it was a defective device, but I'm not tempting fate again, and while I will wash dishes, or wash my hands, I will not willingly submerse it again. Otherwise this is a great device, and I truly love the tracking features, and feel they are pretty accurate for my daily activities!

Gorgeous, no-charging, 50m waterproof = way better than Fitbit, Jawbone
As an early adopter of these products, I’ve pretty much seen them all and used many of them myself, ever since the original Fitbit which didn’t even have an app for years (which I was actually fine with). My boyfriend thinks I’m nuts, but whatever, over the years, we’ve both seen a real impact that these things have made in my life.HISTORYMy quick activity tracker resume is as follows: Fitbit -> Fitbit Ultra -> Fitbit One -> Jawbone UP -> back to Fitbit Flex -> Shine (mostly on the wrist). Basically I’ve been a Fitbit loyalist (bought and reviewed them on …) despite me having to replace each one of them at least a couple times a year because I would inevitably forget them on a shirt or something and accidentally throw them in the washer where they always died - I’ve actually never had a single one survive a wash. When I got the UP I was pretty excited because of the design from the pictures I saw. It quickly became a major disappointment because of how thick it was and how it 1) kept scratching my computer whenever I was typing (seems like a recurring theme in the reviews), 2) would get caught on my shirt sleeves, and 3) was in fact quite ugly. I stuck with it anyway because I dropped $130 on it *sigh* but eventually gave up after having to replace it THREE times because it would just stop working. And I even bought my Jawbone at the Apple Store - I thought all the stuff there was supposed to be really good - I can’t understand why out of all the activity trackers they sell there, they sell the Jawbone which is literally the worst rated activity tracker here on Amazon!Anyway so back to Fitbit I went when the Flex came out which I used until… it started to smell. Like vinegar. It was pretty gross so I washed it…and then it died because water got into it. *sigh* My second Flex - same thing - started to smell after a few weeks. It also just didn’t really work all that well and was really annoying to charge all the time. Then I heard about the Shine through a friend who got hers on Indiegogo - finally broke down in a spat of retail therapy and got one here on Amazon. AND I LOVE IT. I actually recently saw the Shine highlighted in the latest iPhone 5 Apple ad (I have to say, the Shine is pretty Apple-esque in their design so I can see why they would show it off) so it reminded me to get one for my boyfriend…and to finally sit down and write up this review that I’ve been meaning to do for weeks now.One thing I want to comment on from some of the reviews I’ve read about Shine in defense of the previous devices I’ve had in the past: yes, of course compared to Shine, my Fitbits and Jawbones were down-right ugly and toy-like but they were relatively easy to hide so it wasn’t actually that big of a deal (except for when I’m wearing a short sleeve shirt, in which case I just put it away in my purse). I never did the whole clip-on-the-bra thing because I always thought that was kind of weird but if I had a pocket I would just leave it in there and that worked fine. I guess the difference is, I actually WANT to wear Shine on the outside for people to see. Okay onto the review:PROS* STUNNING - I know everyone’s already said it but I just wouldn’t do it justice if I skipped it: the Shine is very obviously the most beautiful device on the market. Opposite to the Jawbone, it’s actually nicer looking “in person” than in the photos - you really can’t appreciate it until you hold it in your hands. I can wear it with just about anything and now I don’t have to hide it. :)* SUPER COMFORTABLE - Again, not to just repeat what everyone’s said here but the thing is really thin and light. I rarely remember that I’m even wearing it no matter what I’m doing.* SOLID BUILD QUALITY - The entire shell is made of aircraft grade aluminum and it FEELS great when you hold it or wear it - totally different from wearing any of the other plastic bands.* NO CHARGING - I never realized how big of a deal this was until about three weeks in I realized that I never had to take it off to charge it. I’ve actually worn my Shine now for over five months without having to charge it (bought my first one in February this year and still haven’t ever had to charge it!). Pretty amazing. One of my greatest annoyances with my Fitbits and Jawbones was that I’d misplace or outright lost my charger (which was proprietary so I couldn’t just use my micro USB charger) ALL THE TIME and would have a week or two of gaps in my data - that alone made me quit a bunch of times. I know tons of my friends have had the exact same experience.* TRULY WATERPROOF - This is kind of a big deal to me because I’ve had so many Fitbits die on me because they were definitely NOT waterproof as they claimed to be. I don’t need 50 meters waterproof since I’m not a swimmer or anything but I’d like it to last through my washer which my Shine has… probably a couple DOZEN times now. Including the dryer. This thing is really strong. Well it’s metal so I guess it’s supposed to be - still pretty amazing.* ACCESSORIES! These guys have made a ton of money off of me by now since I’ve gotten pretty much every accessory they sell - helps me match better. My favorite is the Bloom Necklace which is gorgeous beyond belief; my next favorite is the black leather band which I can wear with just about anything - casual, business casual, etc. The silicone band that it comes with is pretty nice too - I know some people have said that theirs popped out but mine has stayed on my wrist all this time (five+months) so that hasn’t been a problem.* TRACKS CYCLING - Okay this is way cool because neither the Fitbit Flex or the Jawbone could do this. Makes sense since I could only wear it on my wrist. With my Shine, when I go to spin class, I just take it out of the band, put it in the clip and clip it to my shoes and it tracks everything! There’s even a tile that comes up that shows that I was cycling.* ACCURATE - see below for my little accuracy study. Basically, when compared to my Fitbits and Jawbone, the Shine was the least variable - readings were always very stable whereas with the others, I would get as much as +/-30% fluctuations even when I’m doing the exact same thing.* AUTOMATIC SLEEP DETECTION - I totally LOVE this feature. Basically, I don’t do a thing and it just tracks my sleep and it does so amazing accurately. I have no idea how they do it but it just works. With my Flex I have to tap it like thirty times before it gets into sleep mode which was pretty annoying and made me never use the feature. Jawbone was a little easier - I just had to press and hold down the button for a few seconds. But for both Fitbit and Jawbone, I NEVER remembered to manually tag my sleep so I rarely actually got any sleep date whereas with the Shine, I get it, both the amount of sleep and the quality (deep vs. light) of my sleep… every night for the last several months.* FRIENDS FEATURE - My girlfriends and I are all “friends” with each other on the Shine community so we’re all on each others’ lists in the app and can see how we’re each doing. The notifications are surprisingly not annoying and do in fact get me moving.CONS* LACK OF INTEGRATION WITH OTHER APPS - When I first got my Shine back in January, I have to admit that the software was kind of lacking, and there are still some features that I really wish it had. But since then it’s gotten way better - there must have been about 10 updates since then and everytime there’s something new. They don’t integrate into Runkeeper or MyFitnessPal which kind of sucks but it’s not the end of the world. I basically just use the Misfit App now and it’s fine. I do feel these guys are kind of missing the boat without integration into other apps but I guess I’ll deal with it.* DOUBLE TAPPING TAKES TIME TO GET USED TO - The device doesn’t have any buttons so the way you make it display your progress or the clock is by double-tapping it. I know it took me a couple days to get used to it. I actually like the fact that it doesn’t have any buttons but this did take some getting used to. Basically, the trick is to wear it on your wrist or on your body somewhere and tap it there. If you take it off the band or the clip and lay it still on a hard surface (I don’t know why you would) the tapping doesn’t work as well.* LACK OF LONG TERM VIEWS - The app is beautiful just like the device but it only has daily and weekly views. At least with the other products I’ve tried, I could view longer term data - like month-to-month how I’m doing. I know my friends who use the Fuelband (I’ve never had one myself) have lifetime points which to them was a big deal. Out of all the devices out there, it seems like the most obvious feature to have given how much more continuously I wear my Shine (I have months of continuous data as opposed to days) since I never have to charge it.* LACK OF TRACKING OTHER DATA - For the longest time all you could get was activity and sleep data. They finally added food tracking (which is pretty fun to use because it’s just pictures rather than having to type stuff in which I never did in the other apps). And just now got weight tracking. But the weight tracking is manual rather than connected to my Withings Scale. I really don’t think I’m that obsessive about this kind of thing but I think hydration (which my trainer has always emphasized to me as being important) seems like it’d be a really great thing to be able to track how much water I’m drinking. I was able to do it in my other apps but not the Misfit app. Being able to enter in notes here and there would be nice too. Again not huge but you know.* LACK OF MULTI-DEVICE SUPPORT - I know this is kind of nuts but I liked this so much that in addition to the grey one, I also bought the topaz AND the champagne one. The grey one is my go-to since it fits with just about anything I wear. The champagne one fits with my browns, yellows, and whites. But I think the topaz is the cutest but it’s harder to match so I save it for special occasions. It reminds me of a Tiffany blue - really classy. The only annoying thing is I actually have to unlink and relink the Shines when I use different ones because the app doesn’t support multiple Shines at one time. I know I’m probably not the typical Shine user but still - just sayin!* NO TILES FOR YOGA - Again I’m probably being too picky here and it’s not like any of the other trackers could handle yoga either but it would have been nice if there was a tile for yoga since between spin and yoga classes, that’s the major of my exercise routine. My cheat on this is when I do yoga, I just tag it as swimming so I get more points (shhhh) since that’s basically how much effort I feel I’ve exerted after I’ve done yoga for an hour.ACCURACYMy rather non-scientific study:Given that I had a dresser full of these things I thought I’d do a quick study with the ones that still worked and see for myself (I actually ended up borrowing my friend’s Jawbone since the last one I had died and I never bothered to replace it):Home to parents’ home - about 15 minutes:Fitbit One: 1892, 1681, 1983, 1782 -> average = 1835, range = 302 (3rd place)Fitbit Flex: 2043, 1879, 1683, 1912 -> average = 1879, range = 360Jawbone UP: 1437, 1698, 1952, 1702 -> average = 1697, range = 515Shine on wrist: 1884, 1932, 1859, 1861 -> average = 1884, range = 73 (winner = least variable)Shine on hip: 1901, 1891, 1802, 1837 -> average = 1858, range = 99 (2nd place)Home to work - about 7 minutes to the train, 15 minute train ride, and 4 minutes to the office:Fitbit One: 1385, 1539, 1472, 1681 -> average = 1519, range = 296 (3rd place)Fitbit Flex: 1623, 1573, 1631, 1278 -> average = 1526, range = 353Jawbone UP: 1103, 1492, 1067, 1213 -> average = 1219, range = 425Shine on wrist: 1540, 1505, 1512, 1484 -> average = 1510, range = 56 (winner = least variable)Shine on hip: 1556, 1444, 1498, 1464 -> average = 1491, range = 112 (2nd place)The short of it is that basically, these things are pretty variable from device to device and it’s hard to tell which one is ACTUALLY the accurate one - it’s not like I counted my steps manually. The Shine on the wrist correlated pretty close to my Fitbit Flex. The Shine on my hip was pretty close to my Fitbit One. Jawbone was just off. Anyway, when I thought about it I realized that it didn’t really matter what the _actual_ number of steps was, but I would expect that whatever the device reported to me, it would not be so widely different each time. My Fitbit Flex sometimes just felt like a random number generator. So in terms of consistency, which I decided was my most important measure, my Shine wins hands down - and what’s amazing is that it’s pretty accurate no matter where I wore it. I haven’t tried it with the Necklace since I just got it but maybe that’ll come in a later update.CONCLUSIONIf the fact that I’ve stuck with my Shine and basically have rarely taken it off for the last five months is any indicator, I totally love this little thing. It’s so obviously the best device on the market - best build quality, most comfortable to wear, easiest to use (since I never have to charge it), most accurate, and best of all, instead of hiding it like I did with all my other devices, I wear it confidently outside. I get TONS of comments and practically every time I fly the person next to me notices it and if they’re the talkative type, they always ask me about it. These guys should pay me a commission given how many people have bought this because of me! It’s a joy to use mostly because I usually just forget that I’m wearing it and when I do remember and check my app, I’m blown away by the stuff I learn about myself - but this review is already too long - sorry about that. The bottom line is I’ve lost 17 pounds (down from 143 to around 126) since I started using it. Even cooler is I sleep on average nearly half an hour more and get around 25% more deep sleep than say three months ago. I certainly FEEL like I sleep better - these days, waking up a lot more refreshed than I used to. The sleep improvement almost certainly has something to do with the fact that I drink way less coffee than I used to (1-2 cups vs. 4-5 cups before) but seeing my sleep improving as I drank less coffee definitely encouraged me to keep going. It’s probably not just because of the device but it’s certainly helped and now I’m just addicted.

Inaccurate - useful only as a novelty
The Shine is my first fitness tracker - I'd previously been using my iPhone for tracking walks/runs. I chose the Shine because knew I wanted something that didn't have to be worn on the wrist all the time, and I've now used it for the past few months.First, the good. Style/look - better than a lot of fitness trackers, though I still wouldn't wear it to work in the wristband or one of the add on necklaces - to me they look kind of clunky/tacky. But the wristband is comfortable - I forget I have it on while sleeping - and the clip is unobtrusive and easily clipped to bra or pocket for work. It is easy to change between the two. I have very small wrists and was concerned about the wristband being too large, but had no problems and am not even on the tightest setting. Also no problems with it popping out as some people have had. I've never worn it in the shower or the pool but have run with it in the rain and gotten lots of water on it while washing dishes, so I appreciate that it's waterproof. Now, the bad. First problem - set up. I popped it open, put the battery in, and was not able to snap it back together, no matter how hard I pressed. I thought I was going to have to send it back. Finally I looked at it again, and realized that the bottom of the battery compartment was uneven. I prised up the sticker on that side, and noticed that there was a teeny tiny square bit of metal, like the size of the head of a pin (the magnet, maybe?), and a small cut out that was the same size, but the metal square was not in the cutout, which was what was making the base uneven. I carefully with tweezers maneuvered it into the cutout and replaced the sticker, and then was able to snap it together no problem, but you'd think that would have been something to have been caught in quality control. The app - not completely user friendly - it was hard to find some things at first. For example, I saw the activity tagging and was going to use it for my walk on the treadmill, but "walking" wasn't an option, only running. However, you can track walking from the plus button.Sleep tracking - is off. It sometimes seems to be roughly accurate, but started counting as "sleep" the moment I tapped it to start the "Sleep" cycle, and continued counting one morning after the alarm went off and I was up. One night I actually got out of bed, walked across the room, and closed a window in the middle of the night, and that never showed up as "awake". Other times, if I get up at 3 am to go to the bathroom, for example, and then go back to bed, it counts sleep as ending at 3 am. Another point - there's an option to tap to start the "sleep" cycle, which I did at first , since why would you have that option if it wasn't necessary...but I found that I got the same results and perhaps even a slightly more accurate sleep start time when just going to bed normally without telling the Shine that I'm doing so.Running/walking: It's just not even close to accurate. The app suggests that for running/walking, the Shine should be worn on the wrist or shoe. Wearing it on my wrist, I did a 3.15 mile walk/jog - I confirmed this distance from two separate mapping resources, so I know it's accurate. The Shine tracked this as 2.5 miles. It's even worse on a treadmill - after going over a mile on the treadmill with the Shine on my wrist, I synced the Shine - it said I'd only gone .1 miles. Accuracy is a little better when wearing on the shoe, but still significantly off - a 1 mile treadmill run registers as .8 mile on the Shine. Finally, the main drawback for me - the bulk of my workouts are barre classes, circuit training, and pilates reformer lessons - 3-4x/week. The Shine does not track these activities at all. For example, I did a circuit training workout for 45 minutes, to the point I was out of breath, dripping in sweat with trembling muscles. During that time, the Shine recorded that I did "light activity" for like 5 minutes. Same for my intense barre class - the Shine registered only a few minutes of light activity. The Shine registered no activity at all during my 60 minute pilates reformer lesson (less cardio, but light sweat, muscle fatigue), so I had to manually record that as yoga, since there's no pilates option. That would be fine, except that although you can manually add an exercise, it does not change your points for the day at all. I walk to my pilates studio, and so it reflected the walk there and back, but not the actual exercise - not exactly the motivating effect these things are intended to have. It is disheartening be under my target points for the day because I got no credit for a hard, sweaty barre class or circuit workout. I tried just extending the walk time, but that's not accurate, I'm sure, and brings me to another problem - whether the Shine characterizes activity as "light", "moderate" or "vigorous" seems to depend only on duration, not actual exertion. So, for example, when I extended the 10 min. walk that was characterized as "light" to 60 min., that automatically changed it to "vigorous." Same when I walk/jog - I was hoping to be able to track my improvement on the amount of time I am running vs. walking during a workout, but there's no way to track that.At the end of the day, I've not been able to find a fitness tracker that does everything I'd like it too - heart rate monitor, sleep monitor, wrist and clip option, integrated food/calorie tracking, but the Shine really offers no benefit to me, and I'll likely stop using when the battery runs out.

Minimalist beauty paired with high functionality
I just received my Misfit Shine, and straight out of the box, I am very pleased!First, a note about my own history with activity trackers: I had an earlier Jawbone (the second iteration, I think - no longer available) which I liked for step tracking and sleep monitoring. The bracelet did what it was supposed to do, and the app was well-designed, visually appealing, and motivating. Compared to this new Misfit Shine, I would probably rate the Jawbone at 3 stars for three reasons:1) the Jawbone was kind of unattractive and moderately uncomfortable. The design of the bracelet was both wider and thinner than my wrist. Consequently, it always felt a little tight but stuck out graceless on either side of my wrist.2) I always found out that I needed to charge it at inopportune moments, missing out on recording a night's sleep because the band needed to be charged, for example.3) It abruptly stopped taking a charge and died.I have also pre-ordered the Cuff, and I am looking forward to adding it to my devices. On to the Shine!________UnboxingMisfit is obviously a design-focused company, and it's worth noting that even the packaging is refined and unboxing was a pleasure. The Shine itself is nestled in the center of a box, held in place by the device's strong magnet. The cover of the box has a clear plastic window, so the Shine appears to float there in the center of an elegantly simple white box. The box has a hinged lid held in place with a magnetic closure. Inside, a foam insert is specially cut to hold a wrist band, magnetic clip, battery, and Shine-cracker tool. The only other products I can think of that are packaged with this kind of elegance are Apple products.________The wrist strapThe only thing that gave me pause about this purchase was reviewers' comments about the Shine falling out of the wrist strap. Taking said strap out of the box, I thought it looked a little flimsy and the rubber circle that slips around the Shine is folded in half in the packaging, so it looked kind of misshapen. But then I put the Shine into the strap. The rubble gasket fits securely into a grove on the Shine's aluminum circumference. Unless the gasket stretches out with normal wear and tear, I can't imagine the Shine will fall out. The strap is a velvety soft plastic that gives it a nice surface feel. It is comfortable on my wrist, comfortable to sleep in, and exceptionally light. The design is minimalist all around. I do foresee purchasing a leather strap for the Shine, but only as an alternative to the sportier band that comes in the box.________FunctionRight out of the box, I was able to pair the Shine with my iPhone and start collecting data. This device was easy to set up and start using. For activity tracking, the Shine not only counts steps, it allows you to record multiple activities including swimming, cycling, walking, running, soccer, basketball, tennis, dance, and yoga. Based on your activity level, Shine converts steps and motion into points. This is a step up over my previous Jawbone which only counts steps and has no ability to track other activities. I will be using the Shine to track my progress following hip replacement. I am happy that the Shine will give me credit for steps, pace, and work on a stationary bike. Onward! For sleep tracking, the Shine does not require you to change to a sleep mode. When I used the Jawbone, I had a bad habit of forgetting to alert the device that I was going to bed and then had to log sleep manually the next day. I'm not sure how the Shine is able to pick up on sleep without a user input, and I was a little skeptical. I wondered if it would record late-night inactivity as sleep, so i made note of the time I went to sleep. After reading in bed for awhile, I turned off the light at 1:44 (yes, I'm a night owl). The Shine recorded sleep data beginning at 1:52. My wake up time was accurate, too.________AppsThe Misfit app is attractive and easy to use. A round wheel on the home screen shows your progress toward achieving your daily goal. A single tap on the wheel displays an activity graph. Swipe left to sync wirelessly using Bluetooth. The sleep panel displays a graph of awake, light sleep, and restful sleep. On the sleep panel, there's an I'm Ready button that allows you to indicate that you're going to sleep. Perhaps this is good for recording a nap. A social tab displays your progress against the average of all female (Ms. Fit) or male (Mr. Fit, I assume!) users and lets you add friends. Using a + icon over the phone's home button, you can easily add an activity, sleep, weight, or a picture of your food (this doesn't seem all that useful to me, but whatever).I have the Misfit app paired with HealthKit and MyFitnessPal, and I downloaded a booster app, Misfit Sync, that should share sleep analysis data between Misfit and HealthKit. So far, this is not a function on the Misfit app alone, though it's apparently forthcoming. This booster app has toggle switches for data functions that are not currently available using the Shine but that would be great additions, like recording heart rate.________AdditionalThe Shine is waterproof. Wow. The price point makes this device easy to get in to, and the wear anywhere design makes it easy to either integrate into your business or casual wardrobe or to tuck into a pocket.________OverallI'm really pleased with this purchase, and I don't expect to be disappointed by the product. I suspect the team at Misfit will only continue to add functionality to the device and to the app.

OK to start but became a disappointment
So why buy a Misfit seeing as I had the app on my Pebble and I’d previously owned a Fitbit HR – well I know that my job means I’m not moving around as much as I’d like, a point proven by the Fitbit and initially proven by the Pebble, but Misfit provided an update to the Pebble App and it started showing that I was active! A fair number of people complained but Misfit have seemed to ignore this and me being me I got curious so managed to get hold of a Misfit Shine to compare.Whats in the box?A small disc (brushed chrome in my case) made of aluminum (or for the US market Aloominum), button battery, magnetic clasp and a rubber watch strap.Setting Up.Simples really, pop the battery in and pair to the app on your phone – all instructions are provided and if you can read and make finger movements then you’ll be up and running in a few minutes.Use.Well, you wear it and it does its thing. Even at night it tracks how well/badly you sleep (assuming you keep it on!). Open the app and you can sync your data to see how lazy or active you are. Now the real questionis does it record a different reading to the Misfit app on the Pebble……….yes, the Pebble says I’m nearly twice as active as I am and the shine also ties in with what I was seeing from the Fitbits. Very disappointing Misfit devs!Verdict.Well this was more for a test, but the Shine itself is well made, the strap looks like it won’t last more than a few months though. I’ll keep it on as its quite small and unobtrusive, plus I didn’t wear the Pebble to track my sleep as its a tad bulky and the screen scratches if you even look at it!Update – 06/05/2016So here we are several months later, 1 battery replacement and several scuff marks have been the main things but recently its been doing rather odd things, the pebble doubled my steps, this is randomly ignoring steps and in some extreme cases this has been as much as 70% – then there is the issue of how its calculating steps, the same route for walking the dog shows varying distances from 1.8 to 2.4 miles!Update – 14/05/2016After more issues with steps and a less than helpful response from Misfit, I swapped back to the Pebble app, which appears to have been fixed – its actually reporting a much more accurate number of steps which tallies in with what I’d expect and my comparisons with others and other devices.Misfit did respond to my last support comment with honesty, although admitting they have issues! We are sincerely sorry that you found your Misfit experience disappointing and that our product failed to meet your expectation. I totally understand your disappointment about this issue and we are fully aware that our products need a lot of improvements.
