A Legendary Adventure Unleashed! Five Stars for Avalon Hill's HeroQuest!
I recently had the immense pleasure of experiencing the Avalon Hill HeroQuest gaming system, and I must say, it exceeded all my expectations! From the moment I opened the box, I was transported to a world of epic quests, treacherous dungeons, and thrilling battles. HeroQuest has truly earned its place as a timeless classic in the realm of tabletop gaming.First and foremost, the production quality of HeroQuest is outstanding. The artwork on the game board, cards, and miniatures is beautifully detailed and evocative, immersing players in a rich fantasy world. The sturdy construction of the game components ensures durability, allowing for countless hours of adventuring without fear of wear and tear. The game mechanics strike a perfect balance between accessibility and depth. HeroQuest is easy to learn, making it an excellent choice for players of all ages and experience levels. The straightforward rules allow for quick setup and smooth gameplay, ensuring that the focus remains on the excitement of the adventure. Yet, beneath the simplicity lies a strategic depth that keeps players engaged and eager to explore further. One of the standout features of HeroQuest is its immersive storytelling. The included quest book presents a captivating narrative, guiding players through a series of interconnected scenarios. Each quest unfolds with its own unique challenges, surprises, and objectives, ensuring that no two adventures feel the same. The game master role adds an extra layer of excitement, allowing for dynamic storytelling and unexpected twists. The hero and monster miniatures are a true delight. The level of detail and craftsmanship is remarkable, bringing the characters and creatures to life on the table. Painting and customizing these miniatures can be a rewarding hobby in itself, adding a personal touch to the game and creating a truly unique gaming experience.Furthermore, the replayability factor of HeroQuest is off the charts. With multiple quests, each with branching paths and alternative outcomes, the game offers endless hours of thrilling gameplay. Additionally, the inclusion of expansion packs and user-generated content ensures that the adventures never have to end. The possibilities for new quests, heroes, monsters, and equipment are limited only by the players' imagination. Finally, I must commend Avalon Hill for their commitment to the HeroQuest community. The support, updates, and engagement from the company have been exceptional. Their dedication to ensuring the longevity and enjoyment of the game is truly commendable. In conclusion, Avalon Hill's HeroQuest gaming system is a true gem in the world of tabletop gaming. Unbelievable!
This totally destroys the 1990s version. I looked a few years ago on ebay and prices were $100-$500 for incomplete and broken sets. The packaging, pieces, artwork and quality are awesome and for $75! If you liked the original this is the same game with better pieces. Easy to learn and fun to play. No RPG experience needed or complex playing mechanics.

The best
Guys if you know then you know. Classic game with a butt ton of options and upgrades. Great art and a near perfect free companion app the makes the game extremely user friendly. Plus it constantly goes on sale so you get it at a great price. Well done.

Make space!
Great game!! Takes up a lot of room to play and organize but it’s worth it! The minis are wellmade, good sized, and detailed. My kids are 8 and 10 while I play the evil wizard and they do great. I even go off script and try to make it more challenging for them and the mechanics of the game keep it fun for them to stay engaged and defeat whatever I throw at them. I’ve only caused tears and anxiety once! 😅Definitely a good use of time over watching another episode of (fill in the blank).

Comparison to the original
In all the pictures I took, the original is shown above or to the right. Some of my original pieces are painted, they did not originally come that way. One thing not shown is that unlike in the original, only the skulls are on sprews the first time you open the box. Another is that the sarcophagus actually opens. The box art is different, but similar, and the box is not as wide, but is much taller. I disagree with the 14+ age recommendation. I'd say 8+, a player needs to be able to read, do basic addition and subtraction, and play a game that takes over an hour. There's no blood or anything that warents a 14+ either. The board is bigger as are the squares of the grid. I prefer the unhelmeted knight depicted on the lid of the original sarcophagus as well as the etchings on the pages of the origanal book on the sorcerer's table. However, in the new edition, the candlesticks are not as crazy tall or as easy to break and there are no cardboard component to any of the furniture. The skulls and rats in the new version don't have pegs so you can place them wherever or not even use them. The doors are also not cardboard. Very excited about this. I think that perhaps reviewers who complain about the quality of the remake remember playing the game decades ago, but don't actually have an original to compare to.The hero and monster miniatures are slightly larger than the original, have round instead of square bases, and have way more detail. The elf hero as well as a third of the goblins and half of the orcs are female. I do really like the armor on the original gargoyle though. The character sheets are slightly larger in the Avolon Hill version and the dice are plastic instead of wood. The armory is replaced with cards and the rules specify that they are always in stock even though there are a limited number of cards. There are also 4 additional items available. The character cards are on two regular cards per hero instead of the big square cardboard ones in the original. The treasure and spell decks are all the same. The Fimir has been replaced by Abomination with the same stats and all references of "chaos" have been replaced with "Dread". This is probably due to Games Workhop and their Warhammer copyright. There are 4 new artifact cards, but as far as I can tell all quests are exactly the same. Perhaps the new artifacts are for custom quests. The stairs tile and the wide block tiles have an alternate art on the reverse side as opposed to just being blank. There is a tile with a gold symbol that I can't find any reference to, so I assume it's to mark who's turn it is. Otherwise all tiles are the same. The rule and quest booklets are glossy and bound with thread instead of staples. The rules are the same, but there are some clarifications where the original rule booklet was vague. Zargon's screen is also the same but seems to remain standing better than the original one.Overall I'm extremely pleased with this purchase and will definitely use the Avolon Hill version more often. I look forward to getting the two quest packs that are available and hope they reprint the other four as well.

I had never played it and now I loved it
I've recently entered the wonderful world of board games. I found that I like Dungeon Crawlers and I wanted to play one of the fathers of the genre and I wasn't disappointed. Minis are great. Rules are simple but they add a lot of fun.The only problem is that I always play solo so I needed to use the app...but in Colombia it is not available. I had to use an alternative version (Herocoop) but I think that it's better than the original. When I finish the missions I will buy an expansion.
