STYLE: Hamilton Beach 4 Slice Toaster with Extra-Wide Slots, Bagel Setting, Toast Boost, Slide-Out Crumb Tray, Auto-Shut Off & Cancel Button, Stainless Steel (24798) NON Digital.Bought as a replacement for an older Hamilton Beach that worked just fine for close to 15 years.It does toast faster but, it the toasting level depends on the item you are toasting - some bagels only need 1 cycle, others may need a cycle plus another minute. Even from the same manufacturer or store, depending on how the batch was baked.Bought it primarily for the bagel function which I am happy with. Would have given it 5 stars except for con #1Pros:1. Has bagel function, toasts cut side of bagel and warms the crust side, assuming you face them the correct way.2. Large toast toast knob for toast 'doneness'Cons: Industrial design rant here. 1. Why the hell change the location of the slide out crumb trays from the front to the back? 2. With my old toaster, the cancel button had a light that turned on when the toaster was activated. This model does not. Although it's obvious that the lever is down, It's a nice affordance to be able to quickly see a lit Cancel button to confirm that the toaster is indeed on. The Bagel button lights up when it's pressed, they could have easily kept the lit Cancel button functionality 3. Although the control knob is large, there needs to be smaller indicator gradiations so that you can easily reset it for different items 4. The old toaster had black painted bagel position indicators showing which way to insert the bagel. This one simply has an embossed indicator that is not nearly as visible as the prior model.

Knocking off a star due to chemical off gassing. My bagel tastes like burnt plastic and my whole kitchen smells like a chemical factory. It should go away after a few uses but this is very unpleasant

This toaster is replacing an older Hamilton Beach 4 slice model we've had for over 6 years. This model feels to be half the weight of our old unit. Performance is consistent in darkness and crispness so that is a good thing. It is a pain to clean the crumb trays because they are rear access which I knew before buying. Our old toaster crumb trays were front access. It is a pain to have to remember to push the One Slice or Bagel selector button for every start cycle. Our old unit had a dial setting for toast or bagel so we would set 1 side toast and the other side bagel and no need to remember to push a button every cycle. The new toaster's lifters are not level on the Off/Up between the two but its cosmetic now and does not seem to impact performance so no need to return at this point. Time will tell if this lite weight toaster will out live our older unit but; for now, it am rating it 4 stars because it feels so cheap and because I have historic product confidence in the HB brand. I do believe it is a decent and good buy today. By the way our old HB toaster died because I turned it upside to shake out the crumbs and in so doing the toast lifter mechanism would not lock on the down position to toast....wish I hadn't a done that.

Does an excellent job

PROS:1) It toasts well and reasonably evenly. So works for intended purposes2) It has a "bagel" mode that will only toast one side of the item you are toasting. Kinda nice feature.CONS:1) The control panel stinks. It is overhung and thus shaded, it CAN'T be seen while standing up next to it, I have to a) squat down, b) bend over, or c) tilt it up 30 degs or so. (see picture at normal eye level and working distance. Being a bit elderly, I prefer the tilt it up to see it method. BUT WAIT, the controls are NOT active until the lever is depressed and the heating elements are activated. So be really careful not to singe your fingers if you use that method. The control buttons do light up when selected so if you can see them , you know you activated them.2) When I pulled it out of the box and before I got it out of the clear plastic bag, I saw what looked like finger prints and maybe grease on the finish of the front plate (see picture). After trying a number of things to clean it off, nothing has worked so far, so think it was a factory thing that messed up the finish. Also, the cord was not nicely wraped and contained as usual with new stuff, it was just stuff in. I even double checked to be sure I was supposed to get a new one (invoice says so) and then double checked the tape on the box, and there was only one layer of tape top and bottom. So this waws packaged at the factory like this.3) The left label for the "Bagel" mode came partially defaced. See picture

This was a replacement for another toaster I purchased from AMAZON. My former toasters's setting knob was easily moved, not stable; this one has a digital reading, very, very easy to read & set. It is set for "4" when depressed, which is fine for toast. This is a really good toaster!

I like the choices of settings, and the fact bagels toast so well

My husband and I really enjoy this toaster. It means we don't have to make our toast separately, but it also means we can each customize it to the way we want it done. eAch side has its own set of controls, and though the options are the same on both, they work independently of each other. This is good, because he likes his toast far darker than I do, and this way we can both make ours the way we like it, but make it simultaneously. Highly recommend, especially if you're trying to make toast or bagels etc for more than one person.
