Biotechnology Demystified

This book is a study guide that presents examination quizzes at the end of each chapter and a large final exam at the end of the volume. The materials concentrate mostly on the DNA mechanics, monoclonal antibodies, and limited insight into issues of proteomics. Some examples of industrial and medical applications of biotechnology are discussed as well.Probably the best sections of the book are dedicated to the subjects of stem cells. In particular, the current state of embryonic stem cell research is described very well, including methodological and sociological implications.Contrary to the subject, this book does not demystify biotechnology, but it gives some insight into what scientists are working on to make this rapidly changing field of science less mysterious.

We are in the process of starting a biotechnology class within the district that I teach. This has been a nice reference tool to have as we begin writing the curriculum and I plan out our year. My only complaint is that it is a little too simplistic and that it leans more towards entry level biology, rather than focusing on biotechnology principles.

This book is well written and good value for money. It offers a lively introduction to the red hot biotechnology for beginners. Complex concepts of cell structures and functions are clearly explained. The summary and quiz of each chapter are particularly useful. I enjoy most reading about the interesting topics of immunotherapy, stem cell, proteomics and various medical applications of biotechnology.

What i would give to be yong again. This book has me realy into stem. And if i was yonger this is what i would go into.

Biotechnology is a term that is well heard of, but nor correctly understood. For those wanting to get closer without the pain of all the technical details, this is a perfect way to do it. A good buy for the knowledge that it offers.

I had chosen the rating because I am very involved with the matter and I need some basic material for preparing lectures.

I used this for my BioTechnology Class.

This book is a great way to get up to speed when working on interdisciplinary projects in the biotechnology space. I really found te material accessible and the applications sections particularly enlightening as an Aerospace engineer working on a bioscience related project.

I bought this for my son to give him a heads up for his Masters Degree

While the book does cover some interesting concepts, it is not clear what the target reader is. Sometimes concepts or terminology is introduced which is not explained or only explained much later, making it a confusing and frustrating read. Overall I am also not confident that the information is correct.
