Wasn't as good as the hype, but it's not entirely bad either for a rosewood fingerboard and ash body
The guitar is beautiful! It was well built except it had a broken loose truss rod that just spun inside the neck so it had to be returned. The fretwork, initial setup, and craftsmanship was great. The pickups sounded "ok" for a cheaper guitar, better than the Leo Jaymz tele I picked up last summer but the neck was not as good as the Leo Jaymz polished stainless steel, rounded fret end neck.I sent for a replacement and Amazon shipped it as they always do without me having to send the first one back right away so I got to try them both. The 2nd one buzzed way too much, electrical/ground not neck. Although I was planning on replacing the electronics anyway, and then risking the fact that the 1st one had a broken truss rod I decided to just send both back. I can't say I would not recommend them because they are very good guitars, set up well, esp for a beginner. They are a little heavy though. There are other lower priced guitars out there though that play and sound better. You just won't have the real rosewood fingerboard and the ash body.

Shockingly good value
I previously bought an Indio cali and it felt like a cheap guitar. This one was very different. Setup well, quality build, very nice sound. I don’t really know how to say it except that picking up this (heavy) guitar, it felt like a quality instrument, whereas the cheaper one I had bought previously did not.The tuners stay in tune, the strings are the right height, the sound is clean and doesn’t sound thin. The knobs feel solid like high quality and the metal parts are thick and substantial.I have some guitars that are many multiples of the price of this one. It’s clear that they are better built guitars, but I still find myself reaching for this guitar often and enjoy it just as much as the others. If you’re new to guitar and want a budget option that is high quality, I have no reservation in recommending this as a great starter option. You’ll get much more out of this than most beginner budget guitars.

Affordable Guitar
Thou it has a blemish, after pro set up it's really very playable. Not a bad gamble from a mail order company.

Sweet Tones
Although there was no certificate of inspection and set-up from a "Master Luthier" included with the guitar that I received, that Monoprice promotes as a value added to your guitar before it is shipped to you, the guitar still had impeccable quality. From the Swamp Ashe body to maple neck and finger board the quality was excellent. The pickups on this telecaster sound great and give you both nice clean sounds and metal sounds. The action out of the box, the fret ends, and the better strings all combine to provide an excellent playing experience. After adding a quality strap it feels comfortable to play standing or seated. The padded gig bag for transporting your axe to local gigs enhances the value of the package. The machine heads tune nicely and the feel of the neck amazed me. Get one of these before they sell out and/or the price increases. The vintage color, black pic guard, and chrome hardware make this a Strat you will be pleased to perform on stage with.

Great Guitar Let Down by Poor Fretwork
I enjoy purchasing inexpensive guitars and upgrading them; with a full luthier shop (I also scratch-build electric guitars) I can deal with most issues and turn them into 'fun' (if not top quality) instruments. The good reviews of the Monoprice 'DLX' guitars had me thinking this might be a step up from the typical Glarry/Ivy/generic guitars, and so when it went on sale I took a chance. The good is that the body is BEAUTIFUL; perfectly matched pieces of ash (most folks couldn't find the seams) frets polished and even fret ends nicely finished; it made a great presentation right off the bat. After checking relief and action (spot-on; it's obvious this really WAS setup by someone who knows what they're doing) and tuning up, I found that there were 4-5 low frets that either buzzed when fretted, buzzed when bent or, in one case, was completely dead. As anyone who does fretwork knows, low frets are far more work to correct that high frets, since 5 low frets essentially means you have 17 high frets that need to be worked. After a full level, crown and polish, it now plays great with a very low action. The truss rod works perfectly, and the neck responds correctly to adjustments (not always the case; it indicates the neck is correctly built and the rod correctly placed) so it's possible to do a great fret job on it; it just didn't have one when delivered.Note it's NOT a through-body (it's a top-loader) if that's important to you. Tuners are no better or worse than other very budget guitars, something I hoped the "DLX" models might have upgraded. Pickups are ceramic magnet Wilkinson's, but sound just about how a "Tele" should (and I wind my own pickups-I'm a pickup snob :) )If this had been delivered with level frets, it would have been an outstanding value. For me, it still was, since a couple hours of my time and it plays awesome. For someone who would have had to pay a tech to do a full level/crown/polish, it wouldn't really have been a good value, and it wasn't really playable as delivered.

Nice, heavy guitar. But not string thru
Pictures should be updated, as this is no longer string thru, but a top loader. Really nice quality for the price. Certainly better than a squier bullet tele.

Great product for the price
This is one of the best guitars out there that you can get that you don’t have to pay a lot of money for. Get one if you ever can find one for sale.

Love it
Mine arrived well set up and with some decent strings, as opposed to some of the other cheap guitars I’ve ordered which arrive hastily assembled and not set up, with the cheapest possible strings. Definitely heavy as some of the YouTube reviews have said. Wilkinson components sound great. Step up from a squier, not quite an American made fender obviously. But looks and sounds fantastic

Can't say enough
This guitar is an absolute bargoon. The upgraded pickups and bridge on the DLX Plus make a world of difference from the plain Retro. The fit and finish is as good as any Fender I've picked up. Tuners are smooth, switch is clean, neck is a dream with a satin finish and wide radius. Frets smooth, well-beveled and I believe stainless. It would be nice to see 6 saddles but you can't have everything and they are brass anyway. Volume and tone knobs run freely. I particularly like the expanded range of tones and sustain I get compared to my previous Charvel. Budget guitars have come a long, long way, especially at Monoprice/Indio. Only one caveat: it's heavy. Don't know whether that accounts in part for the nice tone but it's a consideration if you'll be gigging with it.

Well Made, Well Set Up
the guitar is well made, plays very well. I did have to loosen the truss rod quite a bit but after that it was perfect. no need to adjust the bridge/action.The fret work is the best I've ever seen on a low cost guitar. smooth fret ends, rolled fingerboard edges. I'm impressed. The pickups sound decent (not as nice as my fenders but very usable)The only issue was a small cosmetic one on the paint job (on the body edge) but for the price I can't really complain. Plus, its going to get dinged up over time as I play it anyway. One small complaint is that I could have sworn that the original description said 9.5 inch radius. there is currently no radius in the description (maybe they updated it since my purchase). For the record it is a 12 inch radius. I hate a 12 inch radius on fender style guitars, love them on gibsons though. I'm probably going to end up swapping the neck, which is a shame because it's a great neck

The Wilkinson components really do make a difference.
The California luthier who supposedly sets up all DLX Plus guitars must have a different set of standards. The guitar was playable but needed many adjustments to improve the playability. One fret was not level and had to be filed. Once adjusted the guitar is quite enjoyable. The sound is definitely better than other lower priced guitars. The swamp ash is noticeably heavier than most. I would purchase Indio again as the overall quality is very good.
