Want to know more of history and enjoy it?
This book is a must-read as a teacher or a lover of US history which I wasn't really before reading Deborah Wiles. She can weave a story and make you understand the era (the 60s) in a way I had not before, and I'm pretty well-read. I have read two of her three of her trilogy and can't wait to read the newest one. She is an excellent writer, one of my new favorite. I used this book in my classroom.

It's a great read for a teenager.
I liked that the author intersperses the story with historic photos, excerpts from speeches and news stories, and song lyrics that add power and heft to the story.

Wonderful series for YA to Boomers !
might not be in the YA age group, but even if you're not, these books are great ! Especially if you are in the Boomer Generation . Brings back lots of memories of growing up years . This is the second in the set, first one called Countdown. I'll be first in line for the 3rd and last in the set ! Can't wait .

It was required reading for a course I am taking and I am very glad I had the opportunity to know about it
This is a very interesting book for young readers about the history of the Civil Rights Movement and Freedom Summer (1964) in a small town in Mississippi. It was required reading for a course I am taking and I am very glad I had the opportunity to know about it. It is lavishly illustrated with news clippings, photos, posters, and other memorabilia of the era. As historical fiction, it is told from the point of view of a 13 year-old white girl and from the point of view of an African American boy of about the same age. As far as quantity of text, however, it was unbalanced between the two narrators, with much more of the narrative coming from the girl.

Phenomenal Series!!
I love this series! Deborah Wiles weaves history into great stories of youthfulness & growing up. Phenomenal series to get teens to learn about Vietnam/Cold War era events that shape the modern world today in a compelling fiction.

Great story, low quality Kindle scan.
This is a low quality scan of a book that is graphically very compelling. Because it's just a pdf, you can't highlight or mark anything the way you could in iBooks, or in other Kindle books I have purchased. This book is fantastic-- story and content are very moving and poignant. Amazon, you can do better than this with Kindle editions.
