able to pick up debris and liquid easily
this little hand-powered pump works well to pick up water and debris, with a little bit of effort. granted, this is hand-powered, so your fingers and palms will get a workout. but it does do the job. my chore is to pump out the excess water on my patio, which does not drain. the patio accumulates dirt and leaves which can be swept up. but i also need to rinse down the patio as well, and that is where this pump does wonders. it can pick up most of the water, after trimming down the end to be more flush with the ground, and deposits the dirty water into a bucket. all in all, this is a better option than the battery operated pump which clogged.

Simple - does the job
It is hard to believe this device can get the job done. Worth trying - it has a year warranty - I think I will look for a siphon meant for greater volume.

How I GOT ONE OF THESE TO WORK after it worked great first time and failed the second time siphoning kerosene.
First I should say that I have bought pumps just like these at Walmart and they worked fine until they finally wore out despite looking quite flimsy. However, my local Walmart did not order anymore after January so I had to look elsewhere for one. I found this on Amazon.I ordered two, in fact, to siphon kerosene. The first time I used each they worked fine, but the second time they didn't work at all. I took them apart and was dumbfounded why they weren't working. Amazon replaced both. When I got the replacements, I took one apart to see what was going on inside before it came into contact with kerosene. Well, instead of using gaskets, the manufacturer uses some kind of clear jelly substance on the threads where the red hand grip screws onto the base. I think this substance must be water based so that when it comes into contact with kerosene it disintegrates, thereby, causing the pump not to be able to make a vacuum for the device to work.I just happened to have in my tool box something I bought at Lowes but had never used..... SILICONE PLUMBER'S GREASE. You should NOT confuse this with silicone caulk. Silicone caulk dries, this stays moist like grease.I wiped off the clear jelly substance that the manufacturer had put on the threads and rubbed liberally on some of the silicone plumber's grease. Not only did the pump now work the first time, but the second, third, etc. The problem then must have been a loss of seal to make a vacuum. As is, that jelly the manufacturer puts on probably works great when siphoning water, but something like kerosene appears to have eaten away at the jelly.PLEASE NOTE: I used nitrile disposable gloves when working on this pump. Also, DO NOT tighten down the red hand grip, it will cause a split in the red plastic which will also prevent a vacuum. Once you over tighten the red hand grip and cause the plastic to split there is no good fix. Just something to remember when trying to work with this pump. Also, there is a little nob on top of the red plastic hand grip that you can loosen to release fluids from inside the hand grip. The threads on this also have the manufacturer's clear jelly. It should also be replaced with the silicone plumber's grease. Good luck!

Best on the market
I actually own several of these for different liquids, but the oldest one is at least 20 years old. Theyโve all been flawless.Even so, I was pleasantly surprised to see that this one is actually an improved design, with a clip that secures the dip tube to the suction bulb. Just a Great product. And, the seller was outstanding, the post office actually damaged it when they jammed it into a mailbox. I contacted the seller and they just shipped me another one. I cannot recommend this product and seller more. Very happy

Great basic siphon
I use this to move gas from my 5-gallon gas cans to my cars. The inlet hose is stiff and straight, while the outlet hose is flexible and has a little bit of a ridge on the lip to help it from slipping out. Put the inlet hose in the gas can and the outlet hose in the car and repeatedly squeeze the red bulb until gas starts flowing. Pretty straighforward. The downside is that it's difficult to get the last pint/quart out of the can because of the geometry of the opening, but I just use a funnel for the last bit.The pump has a bleed screw on the top to slow/stop the pumping in mid-stride; mine is stiff and not very easy to get re-sealed, so I tend not to use it... minus one star for that. But for the price, this hits the spot.
