A amazing book!
I chose this rating because, it is a great book in general. It had a great climax, you never knew wht would happen next. It had a great ending. It set me up for the climax. It also had great character change. I would reccomend this book to 10-13 year old's on how hard to read. But, it would be a great book for kids 8 and up because, they could understand it and love it.

My son enjoyed reading this book with his class and helped write ...
This book was part of my son's 5th grade Lit Circle assigned reading. (this review is based on my son's reading comprehension of the book) This book is about a troubled, rich kid named Mark who is raised mainly by hired help. He goes on a camping trip - a week in the woods with his 5th grade classmates. While on the trip he takes the blame for a fellow friend who brought a pocket knife on the trip and got caught with it. Mr. Maxwell, the science teacher reprimands Mark which leads to him (Mark) running away from the camping trip. After he runs away Mr. Maxwell goes after him but gets hurt in the process but eventually is able to find Mark.My son enjoyed reading this book with his class and helped write this review :)

Great book for kids going to 5th grade camp!
My 10 year old granddaughter loved this book, in fact she suggested reading it together. It fit so nicely with her 5th grade class camping week at a local state park. As her grandmother I thought the way Mark coped with his feelings of moving to a new school, not seeing his parents enough and having a teacher who misunderstood him was a great example for kids to be patient and to examine how their own behaviors can generate a negative reaction in others. I loved how the main character, Mark, challenged himself to try new things and struggled to see things from more than his own perspective. Plus, for me his exploration of an old barn, brought back many fond memories of exploring my grandparents old barn years ago.

Exciting and Suspenseful
Mr. Clements is a great writer and this is the third book my son has read from him. He is already looking to get another one now! He did wish the author had maybe one more chapter on the kids actual week in the woods and not just the first couple days, but the events near the end were really suspenseful and enjoyable. Overall a great read for like nine or ten and older.

Ok and then awesome
This story started out as my idea for a read-together with my son. After a few nights he started to ask for more than one or two chapters and even read ahead himself. We like the characters and the way they work through the events in the story. It's relatable for both of us.

a good book for upper elementary students
I liked this book because it was told from two people's point of view, and it was easy to see why they misunderstood each other. I liked that there was no "bad guy", and that both main characters had redeeming qualities, and that by the end, they could see those qualities in each other.
