Sinking the Dayspring
Kevin Gilmore 14yrs could not swim and was pushed into the water by older boys, he just managed to get out, Kevin was in Sydney, Australia and watched as a new ship the Dayspring entered the harbour, Kevins mother had 100 shares in the ship, the year was 1865, Kevin had found that his parents had been brought to Australia as convicts, Kevin tried to cash in the shares but the captain said they had no money, his mother like his father before dies, Kevin agreed to be a cabin boy on the Dayspring taking missionary families to the Islands, he was put to work by Mr Samson first mate, Mooring at one of the Islands Kevin was shown the Hopeful, a slave ship, soon they dropped anchor in Port Resolution, Tanna, Mr Paton from the missionaries went ashore with Kevin and some sailorsKevin had hurt his leg stopping the Patons son falling in the water and stayed with them while he recovered, the Dayspring returned but was caught in a storm and wrecked on the shore, Kevin had nowhere to go and made a home in the wreck, the slavers returned and started to repair the ship, they wanted to use it to fool the natives into thinking they were missionaries, Kevin went for help but was capturedKevin had to think of a way to warn the natives but what could he do he still could not swim
