An amazing book about a little known, but still the worst building fire disaster in Australia's history.The main reason I bought this book was because my Father was one of the two policemen who were the first to arrive at the fire. What they found was a scene of carnage, but they got as many of the men, dead or alive, out as they could for 30 minutes before any other help arrived. He and his colleague were told afterwards that they would get the George Medal for what they did but in the end, they weren't even called to give evidence at the inquest, nor were the 62 firemen who attended the scene.Geoff Plunkett has done an amazing job in researching this fire and has left out no-one from this very sad saga in Melbourne's history. It is a credit to him to have brought this subject to life and is a must for fire-fighters, policemen, ambulance crews and other first responders to emergency situations.
