This allows for greater tightening force without stripping threads. Cap: Durable caps are designed and built to perfectly mate with their respective containers. There's no separate liner to wear, crease, fall out, or leak, and the seal ring is molded directly into each cap. Finished products are tested according to the requirements of the USFDA for food and beverage contact. Heavy-duty Walls: Uniformly durable walls are thicker and more resistant to failure than many similar looking, but lower quality bottles. Bottom: Inner corners of each bottle's bottom are curved for easy cleaning, and a plastic resin code is molded into the bottle for eventual recycling after years of sturdy service. About Nalgene Nalgene is one of those brands many consider synonymous with its product category, much like Rollerblades or Q-Tips. The company creates ubiquitous BPA-free colored water bottles, geared toward providing a simple personal hydration solution that respects the environment. Nalgene offers a full product line of reusable containers of all kinds, made from a wide range of materials.

Incomplete canteen
After receiving the first one I had noticed it had no white reinforcement ring for carrying the canteen, so requested an exchange. When I received the second one the same thing, I contacted the manufacturer and they had specified that they still manufactured the the canteen with the white reinforcement ring for carrying. So I gave amazon another chance to send a complete canteen with the reinforcement ring. Still could not provide a complete canteen. Anyone who has owned one of these canteens before (96 ounce) knows that they have always had this reinforcement ring around the hole. Amazon needs to get with the manufacturer so they both are on the same page so they can provide a complete canteen to the consumer.

Held up for almost 4 years.
Purchased in 2014. Extensively used during hiking season. Frozen, tossed around, filled with gross water, clean water, put in the dogs pack, dropped off a cliff, ect. These have held up wonderfully over the years. However this year it seems the welded seams have come undone and both have slow leaks in between the plastic on the inside that slowly seeps water to the outside. They will be retired and I will be looking for another solution. They have a wide enough mouth that I was able to clean them with ease and I did not expect them to last forever (or this long as a matter of fact), they have certainly served me well.

More hit than miss, but...
I love these bottles because: They collapse and weigh practically nothing when empty, great for backpacking, and their mount thread matches an adapter on my water filter, so they are easy to fill at a creekside.I don't love these bottles because: They spring leaks. Like often. Nalgene support has been stellar. They have replaced every one that leaked, no questions asked, but let's get real, they shouldn't fail so often and it hasn't been nice discovering they did fail by finding water all over wherever they did so. These leaks have always been pinhole leaks which I believe are caused by fatigue near the welds. When they are folded and handled, the plastic is bent severely near the welds and this eventually causes the plastic to fail and a hole to develop. Always small, but always fatal to the function of the bottle. I wish there was a better alternative to these bottles, I don't like narrow mouth bottles because they are impossible to clean and dry and they don't fit my filter... Only these bottles meet those criteria.

Too fragile for serious use.
Had several of these over the years. The oldest lasted the longest - 3 or 4 summers. Then I had one that made it one summer and the last one I bought from here only made it a few days before it sprung a leak. Very disappointed, especially since the price is now more than double of what it was not even 5 years ago..I really liked the canteen for camp use. Very fast to filter a lot of water into, or just grab it from a waterfall. Stand upright so you can use it and stand it back up for the next splash of water without having to reseal it. Just a no-nonsense water carry system. It used to be durable enough to use it inside a pack to carry water up to dry camps. Now I would not dare to use this product inside my pack while filled with water any longer. With durability now well below my expectations, I will be using water bags like my MSR's dromedary bag, which I also have owned for 10 + years and expect to use for 10 more. it's just not as convenient to fill or use as a stand-up container, but I'll deal with those shortcomings before I risk not being able to pack the water when I need it while in the backcountry. Durability is the key flaw here and unless you are car camping, that is a show stopper for me.

Love Nalgene Products! But NOT this one!!!
I like Nalgene products because they never leak and I don't have to worry about the liquids inside ending up where they don't belong. Also, once this is empty, it squishes down and doesn't take up much room.Be careful around sharp objects with these bags. They are definitely not comparable in the least with the 'bullet proof' quality of Nalgene's hard plastic bottles or even their soft/rubbery bottles. These do puncture and 2 of mine got little pin-pricks in them, rendering them to be essentially useless. For that, I'm moving this down from 5-stars to 4-stars.Update: I've since got another of these bottles with a slow leak from a seam. I cannot recommend this product, even though, for decades, I've been a huge Nalgene bottle fan. These containers simply are too prone to leaking and being damaged. For how much I used them, I could have purchased bottle water and saved money compared to this overpriced item.

No longer has plastic grommet in the carrying hole.
My buddies and I use Nalgene cantenes for backpacking. I ordered this for one of my buddies because REI doesn't carry them anymore. We noticed that the design had changed (though the photo hasn't). The hole is no longer reinforced with a plastic (nylon?) grommet. This makes it lighter, but if you carry it by that hole (which is why it's there), it will probably not be as durable. We only use them in camp, not to haul water in our packs, so it wasn't a big deal. The "neck" seemed longer too, but I can't say for sure.

Great!
2010/11/12/15 - Big Bend, 2010/11/12/19 - Grand Canyon, 2017 - Yellowstone, 2017 - Sawtooth Mountains, 2012/13/14 - Guadalupe Mountains, 2011/13 - Rocky Mountain National Park.Has absolutely worked every time, thus saving my life all the time. An must for Big Bend & Guadalupe Mountains where you carry all your water. The wide mouth opening makes it easy to fill from waterfalls & creeks. The ergonomics make it easy to pour into another container. When it's empty, it's day 3-4, you are tired from 30-40 rugged miles at 7-8-12,000 feet & it's time to go back to civilization...it is very light weight (2 ounces) and smashes down small. Also great for sunny day photo/video shoots. With the center hook on my tripod, I hang the bladder to add weight, then drink or rinse off after the hot day of shooting.I purchased a 3rd Wide Mouth Cantene for when I am not hiking solo.

Great base camp container.
Love it. Great for storing alot of water at a base camp. Wouldn’t necessarily recommend walking around with this full or stuffed in a pack, just because the more water in it, the more likely it will fail if it’s being thrown around in a pack. Keep it a camp and it will be great for a long time

Poor quality and design AVOID!
This bag broke after 5 minutes of being filled the plastic loop is simply not strong enough and hasn’t been tested thoroughly enough. The loop broke, the bag hit the floor and the bottom of the bag burst, so much for cutting down on single use plastic, this didn’t even get one use!!

Seems good quality. Wide spout.
Excellent quality flexible bottle for camping. Hopefully this will last longer than the Platypus bottles I've had.

Great, tough water carrier for camping, trekking
Have used this for a about 8 months now and so useful for when camping and trekking. Its pretty thick plastic but it does not show any signs of deterioration or fatigue in the folds. It folds up flat so can easily slide into my pack and holds a decent amount of water. A nice wide mouth for filling from streams too.

Water bottle
Wanted this as a water container for motorcycle camping. It's perfect as it goes almost flat to pack in panniers.
