Brad Temkin: The State of Water
L**E
Classic Photographic Approach to a Unique Subject
Brad Temkin takes a "traditional beauty" approach in his photography book, "The State of Water." By that I mean even exposures, in-focus images, and classic (though often abstract) compositions. And it's a good thing, because that's where tradition ends, given that Temkin is photographing basically sewage and sludge. But once you're on board with that, it's quite easy to not only enjoy the images as presented, but also to appreciate the importance of the work. With fresh water becoming increasingly precious, the municipal water refinement process documented by Temkin is surely the way of the future. One further note is that the physical construction of the book is quite impressive.
