Stunning Cinematography of Lone Pine CA
Parts of this movie were filmed in Lone Pine, California, which has been the location of literally thousands of advertisements, movies, and TV programs. These include the movies Tremors, Gunga Din, Ironman, Django Unchained, High Sierra, and countless old westerns with John Wayne and Roy Rogers, as well as TV shows like The Lone Ranger, Bonanza, Hopalong Cassidy, The Twilight Zone, and Alias Smith and Jones. This film has some of the most stunning photography of Lone Pine that I have ever seen. It is beautifully shot and includes footage of the Alabama Hills, Lone Pine Peak, Mobius Arch, and even a brief peek at Mt. Whitney. At times, the immense sky manages to steal the show from the amazing rock formations. If you are a Lone Pine film buff like Quentin Tarantino (who donated some props to the local Museum of Western Film History) and I, this movie is for you.

You can buy David's shoes on Amazon!
This film was pretty terrible all around. At the end when David was rolling around in the dirt, during the fight with Goliath, I got a good look at his sandals. He's wearing Keens - as in the sturdy water shoes that you can buy right here on Amazon! I was laughing too hard to check out Goliath's shoes but they could have been Tevas! LOL!!!!

Creative liberties don't take away from the Biblical tone.
This movie did take a few creative liberties. However, despite us never reading about David training with Samuel or actually fighting Goliath prior to killing him, it doesn't take away from the entire point of God's allowing this recounting in the bible of this part of Israel's history. The point was (and still is) that we should never lose faith when we know God is with us, because God allows us to overcome otherwise impossible odds with true and correct faith. Despite the creative directions this movie took, that part of the bible remains in tact here. That is ultimately the reason I gave it 5 stars. Please watch this epic (if but a bit short) retelling of David's battle with Goliath if you want to understand true faith. Will definitely watch again AND will recommend to all my church friends ^____^

Worth Watching...but read The Bible FIRST!
I'll begin by saying that this movie was a good attempt at dramatizing history and I will recommend it to friends and family.I read 1 Samuel 17 and Mrs. White's "David and Goliath" from Patriarchs and Prophets before watching this movie. While not much was known about the ways in which David acquired his fighting skills, this dramatization showed David's faith and trust in the Lord. One thing KEY point was omitted from the movie...the fact that David accepted King Saul's armor...went onto the battlefield and then LEFT the battlefield and returned the armor to the king before defeating Goliath. That point would have been even more dramatic and demonstrated even more faithfulness had it been included in this dramatic retelling of history. Also, David didn't need a "special" stone to kill Goliath when he had God on his side...ijs... :-)Good movie though. Thanks for airing it.

Only around two percent of this movie was biblically accurate.
As long as you do not expect this to be accurate compared to the Bible it is an entertaining movie. It was so inaccurate though that it was more like pure fiction with just a bit of the Bible in it. That is ok as long as you do not depend on a movie to be accurate. The Bible is God's word and the movie was entertainment.

wonderful view of this famous story
I love the point of view of the story teller. Prophet Samuel is much more than a priest, he is a priest worrier and that makes perfect sense otherwise he would not be the one killing the king of the Amalekites. David's training was amazing and the scenery where it took place was just beautiful. I also loved the scheme of figuring out as you go, because it is in line with what we experience on our day to day base. Although King David received the word from God of his becoming, he did not hide away in fear but face it hard-on when the time came to prove his faith. An amazing movie i wish it was longer.
