Short being its strength.
Does what the title suggests. The main point is, it makes the reader aware of how complex this subject is. Written as an introductory text it presents the subject from a simple perspective to provoke more thought. Further investigation into some of the theories presented this book makes the reader understand it provides a brief insight. For formal studies further reading will be required but don't let that put you off.I would suggest some knowledge of criminal law and maybe philosophy might be useful.

A concise and jargon-free guide to criminology.
This is an accessible and concise introduction to criminology. There are nine illuminating chapters titled: 'Introducing criminology'; 'What is crime?'; 'Who commits crime?'; 'How do we measure crime?'; 'Understanding recent trends in crime'; 'Understanding the crime drop'; 'How do we control crime?'; 'How do we prevent crime?' & 'Where next for criminology?'The book concludes with references and a further reading list.'Criminology: A Very Short Introduction'(2018) is a clearly written and jargon-free guide to a fascinating subject which should appeal to the general reader as well as students of criminology.Btw ~ The reviews for Tim Newburn's much larger textbook 'Criminology'(all 3 editions) have been wrongly attached to 'Criminology: A Very Short Introduction'(2018)
