Beautiful, grand and human.
The author's unique perspective on the subject and the world makes this a unique and beautiful book. Emma is a poet, and you can tell this in every one of her words. The imagery is vibrant and beautiful. The metaphors keep us grounded while at the same time elevating the story. She is also an academic, and you can see this in how every part of the shrimpers ideology and life are described on a grand scale with academic discourse (none of which is dry, due in part to Emma's poetic style). She is also daughter of Chauvin and has cultural ties to the shrimpers, which you can tell from the close personal look we the readers are allowed to get through her access. Highly recommended for the experience of reading, and for increasing understanding of a part of the world and humanity.
