TERRIFIC DRIVE ENCLOSURE, SUPER FAST, EASY TO USE, PERFORMANCE TO PRICE RATIO SHOULD BE 10 STARS!
UPDATE 1/17/15 USE WITH SSD. I finally got a chance to use this enclosure with a newer SSD drive and am very impressed. Running a Crucial M550, 512GB SSD with a Lenovo W530 laptop produces great results. Back-up of a 1.5GGB Outlook file shows transfer of over 350Mbps. An 85GB drive image back-up runs in the same time as a back-up to an SSD located internal to my laptop in the SATA III 2nd hard drive enclosure.A great enclosure for a very low price!***********************************************************************************************I have had this little drive enclosure now for about 6 weeks and it is just terrific. I waited to review it until I had a chance to run it with an SSD.Case is sleek and relatively easy to open and close but requires a little extra force. Uses an A to A USB cable which is not typical but available on Ebay etc. Use of this cable type connector on the unit makes it much more durable than the little mini-usb connectors which are the weak link on most drive enclosures. Caution: if you connect two computers together with the A to A cable you can burn out your usb ports. The drive is easy to install in the case and two little pads are provided to keep the various thickness drives in place. I made a little change here compared to the instructions. When I put my WD Black drive in the case there was a tiny bit of noise when the drive was running and it changed pitch when I picked up the case. I believe the little single pad was putting too much pressure on the drive case/motor. I trimmed the racetrack shaped pad back to a piece about the size of 1/2 of a quarter at the end furthest from the connectors. This still supports the drive well but now there is less pressure and silent operation. The case includes an on-off switch and an led drive activity indicator but the best part of this unit is performance. I use the unit with a Lenovo W530 laptop which has USB 3.0 ports and SATA III internal drives.-67GB Image back-ups to a WD Scorpio Black HDD runs 100-120MB/s.-Image Back-ups with a Crucial M500 480GB SSD in the laptop and a Crucial M550 256GB in the enclosure run at about 200MB/s average with image verifies running 270MB/s average.-Large file (1.2GB etc.) transfers run in the range of 350MB/s with the SSDs!!!!!!!!!!!!These speeds are very similar to the speeds that I get when I am backing up to drives mounted internal to the laptop which has the capability to hold two SATA III drives and one SATA II mSATA SSD.I am not suggesting you buy an SSD for USB back-ups but if you do, this unit will make you smile!Like we say in New York....."What a deal".................for less than $20.

Awesome enclosure, indepth review!
This review is mostly about using SATA II HHD but still takes advantage of the USB 3.0 technology; read below. SSD tested towards end of review.Pros+ Tool-less design+ Male to Male USB 3.0+ Quiet operation+ Perfect fitment of 2.5" Drives with no movement of drive while in case+ USB 3.0 speeds up SATA II drives compared to USB 2.0The tool-less design definitely makes this one of the easiest enclosures to access your drive. It is stiff to open at first which is good so that it doesn't come apart unexpectedly but that may degrade over time. The male to male USB 3.0 gives your drive all the power it needs without adding cumbersome wires, but it isn't as flexible as the old 2.0 for obvious reasons. The operation of this enclosure even with a 7200 RPM HHD is rather quiet and the drives fit perfectly inside without slop or movement. The enclosure comes with one side of foam preinstalled and has a slot on the other side to install the additional foam, but this is not recommended as it'll put strain on your HHD/SSD connection. Instead place the foam ontop of your hard drive itself if you don't have a 7mm-9.5mm adapter.I really wanted to test the difference of USB 3.0 vs 2.0 on a SATA II HHD, and the results were pleasing to see. USB 3.0 definitely doubled the performance of USB 2.0 both in benchmarks and realworld data transfers.Cons- Tool-less design*- Lacks any rubberized feet. The tool-less design is also a potential con. This is an all-plastic construction enclosure and there is no telling how well those slots will hold up over continuous use from taking it apart or if dropped. I'd be more concerned of the durability if accidentally dropped. The slightly raised feet on the bottom are a part of the molded plastic case and lack any rubberized surfaces. It's not a deal breaker but I would have liked to see some rubber on the bottom just to help from sliding or damaging the surface of whatever you're resting the drive on.BenchmarksAll benchmarks were run on CrystalDiskMark 64bit 5x 1000MB on the default settings. Unfortunately the 1TB drive Toshiba uses is too thick and I had to test this with the top of the Inateck case off.++ Update #2 ++I took the out of one of my laptops to test it in the enclosure. M500 is rated at 500MB/250MB sequential Read/Write respectively. The 7mm SSD will move around in the enclosure. Inateck provides you with an additional foam sticker to attach to your drive (Top, not underneath) to prevent it from moving around. Luckily the M500 has a 7mm to 9.5mm bracket that comes with the unit. I laid it down ontop of the SSD without using the stickypads that come with the adapter instead and all is secure.Inateck enclosure Sequential Read : 418.482 MB/s Sequential Write : 274.676 MB/s Random Read 512KB : 383.838 MB/s Random Write 512KB : 271.004 MB/s Random Read 4KB (QD=1) : 18.868 MB/s [ 4606.4 IOPS] Random Write 4KB (QD=1) : 40.899 MB/s [ 9985.0 IOPS] Random Read 4KB (QD=32) : 133.058 MB/s [ 32484.7 IOPS] Random Write 4KB (QD=32) : 146.218 MB/s [ 35697.8 IOPS] Test : 1000 MB [H: 20.2% (45.0/223.4 GB)] (x5) Date : 2014/07/12 20:09:11 OS : Windows 8.1 Pro [6.3 Build 9600] (x64) Sequential Read : 269.626 MB/s Sequential Write : 249.068 MB/s Random Read 512KB : 252.858 MB/s Random Write 512KB : 244.383 MB/s Random Read 4KB (QD=1) : 18.204 MB/s [ 4444.4 IOPS] Random Write 4KB (QD=1) : 40.817 MB/s [ 9965.0 IOPS] Random Read 4KB (QD=32) : 155.389 MB/s [ 37936.8 IOPS] Random Write 4KB (QD=32) : 135.512 MB/s [ 33084.1 IOPS] Test : 1000 MB [H: 20.2% (45.2/223.4 GB)] (x5) Date : 2014/07/18 18:28:07 OS : Windows 8.1 Pro [6.3 Build 9600] (x64)The "Optimized for SSD" definitely works as I compare it against another USB 3.0 SSD Ready enclosure.
