Worked perfect out of the box
Unlike other reviews, I did not have to file the nuts - strings sat nicely. The original strings are meant to tune to C6 ( they are light gauge). I tuned to Open G and played around. It was fun. I liked the sound from the pick up, and do not see a need to upgrade at this time. Excellent little lap.

Needs some work to be great
This lap steel sounds surprisingly good. Putting on heavier strings required me to enlarge the string entry holes on the back of the bridge and deepen the string slots on the nut. I don’t know if the shallow string slots on the nut were a QC issue or a normal factory set up.

GREAT SOUNDING PLAYING LAP STEEL WITH A COUPLE ADJUSTMENTS
First off these are $299 everywhere.Don't expect to take this out of the box and play it. Don't get all crazy and send it back. Its a super playing and sounding guitar with a couple adjustments.1. Throw the stings away. They are like 9s for a Strat. Order some lap steel strings like GHS C6 or E tuning strings. That way you will have a playable instrument when it comes.2. Take off the pickup cover and deposit it with the strings. It's only for show. Put the screws back in the holes. Now you can do palm muting.3. You will need to notch the string slots ever so slightly on a few strings on the nut to hold the strings in place. If you are up to it slightly notch the bridge strings but not necessary. You don't need to go a mile deep. Just enough to hold the strings in place. Now you have a nice playing vintage style lap guitar. The sound is really nice with the pickup. I have a few lap steels and I like playing this one a lot. It has a beautiful Hawaiian and country voice.Just understand you will need to do the above adjustments. And the gig bag is el cheapo. There is a Recording King lap guitar gig bag on ebay that fits it perfect that is way better.

attractive lap steel
There were two things that I didn't like about this slap steel. The pickups were not strong enough for me and the strings spacing was too wide.
