Shiver Me Letters: A Pirate ABC

My 20 month old son loves this book so much, he sleeps with it. The rhymes are cute, the illustrations are beautiful and vibrant, and it's not too wordy for a child as young as mine. He loves all the "arrrrrgghh"s and does the hook hand whenever we read it. I seriously recommend this book for any budding pirate fanatics :)

Use this book for abc learning with our toddler. He asks for it all the time!

My kids and I love this book. Reading ABC books can be painstaking for parents if the child does not take much interest in learning letters. I hate to turn to technology to help me since kids are already overwhelmed with media at such young ages. This book was fun, funny, and exciting for my 5 year old and me! We hunted for the letters on each page, and the ending is really cute! The best part was that my daughter actually recognized more letters after reading this book a few times! Finally!

Fun way to get child to learn their letters. Some of them are hidden pretty good

This is an adorable and entertaining book! I did it as a read-aloud to my first grade class and they immediately asked me to read it again. Prior to reading, I asked them if they knew what Pirates said, and they all growled, "ARGH!" which was the perfect lead-in to this story..."R" said the pirate. "R's not enough! We need more letters to make us sound tough!" So the pirates go off in search of the entire alphabet. The pictures and rhyming text make it a very enjoyable story.

My 4 year old is learning his letters and this book is an absolutely wonderful tool. He is obsessed with pirates and this book is all about them, and their quest to find all the letters in the alphabet. The pictures have the kids identifying the letters at least twice on every page, and they go in alphabetical order, with easy rhymes for kid to follow along. Love it!!!!

My 7 year old daughter says: “We like the book because it rhymes and we like the pictures. And because we like looking for the letters in the pictures. I like how the book ended because they found the Zs. I like the crew because they’re silly and they said they want lunch.”

This is one of only 2 ABC books that both my 4 year old son and I can read over and over again. Now we like Pirate stuff a lot around my house so that makes a difference I suppose. But as he started to learn his ABC's he now find and says the letter without my help even though some of the letters are shaped kind of funny. (Oh and the other ABC book we both like is Superhero ABC)

A mi hijo le encantan los piratas y pensé que estaría genial para aprender el alfabeto con ellos, pero la verdad es que el libro no le gustó nada, tan poco que cada vez que le digo que se lo voy a contar huye. Nada recomendable.

We were disappointed with this book. I was extremely excited to receive it, given the combination of pirates and learning letters, but some of the rhymes are a bit of a stretch, and it's not as conducive to learning the alphabet as I had hoped. We'll be returning it, sadly.
