Gearbox does NOT fit the RY253SS. The shaft sizes are different, and the keyed part of the shaft is different.

works better the the one that came with it.
had the spring clip fly off my old one the drive gear and head got flung but it missed me, could have cleaned it up and replaced the clip, But got this new head instead, very pleased I did Amazon delivered the next day so no down time to speak of. the head is much quieter then the original works great.
