SOUTH BENDCollapsible Bait Bucket – Easy Bait Storage & Bait Retrieval

I really like this minnow bucket for a number of reasons. One of the best features is that it fits perfectly down inside of a 5-gallon bucket. The weighted bottom ensures the door is always located on top while floating in the water. Overall the bucket is very sturdy and holds up well to lots of banging about on rocks and such. But two things about it drove me nuts until I took the few minutes required to fix the problems that in my opinion were carelessly overlooked by the manufacturer. First is the door closing mechanism and the door itself. As is, the door is a pain in the neck to close securely merely because there is NOTHING to grab or get a hold of to pull it shut! So I would be left attempting to depress the door down and then quickly releasing it against the spring tension in the hope it would slam hard enough to engage the slide pin. That worked on occasion but was a pain in the u-know-what. The simple fix was to just finagle a zip tie through two of the holes in the door on either side of the slide mechanism so to give me something to grab with my fingers so I could easily pull it shut until the slide pin engaged. The other annoyance was the so-called "locking" of the bottom section in the up and down position. There is no "locking" taking place because after you've turned the bottom to lock it in the extended position it takes only a few seconds of light bumps against the shore or the side of your boat and the next thing you know is that the bottom has all on its own returned to the collapsed position. This is another careless design flaw of the manufacturer that should have been corrected before the design ever left the drawing board. But again, the fix is super simple and only takes a minute to complete. I just drilled a couple of 3/16" holes in the bottom tub and used some scrap bits of cord to tie it firmly into the down position and it's been like this ever since. Easy-Peasy.

Nice bait bucket and worked well for a gift basket as well

Excellent bucket for a pint of live shrimp. Took it to surf fish in fairly heavy waves and it fared well. The door lock works okay. The door should be able to lock open, but that is the only detriment I can criticize. I'd like to see this bucket made for about 10 quarts.

work great!! 2 things the labels dont peel off worth a crap,such a pain. 2nd the opening could be a tad bigger.Other then that works great, not the brittle plastic like frabill!!!I love how it collapses, save room in the kayak.Well after i used it for a month got to change my review.well it does not pull very good behind a kayak,way to much drag,it keeps collapsing,

Would recommend it.
