Useful monitor with free app data
Not had any problems with it and luckily avoided the recent update issues. It has a much better breakdown of activity (although I still hate the new app layout) than my vivosmart 4 on which the strap gave up, and at least I can replace the strap easily on this model. It gives me enough data to manage my CFS and energy levels, as well as a comprehensive breakdown of sleeping patterns. The watch display is rather small and doesn’t have too many customisable features, but I mainly use the (free) app to monitor the data I need.

Now I am getting used to it this is great and I'm loving it.
I've only ever had a Fitbit Charge 2 which I purchased back in 2017 and then it went wrong. Initially I was going to "go" with another Fitbit because I was familiar with how they worked etc, etc. Then I realised that they had been taken over by Google and that things were on the change so a huge decision lay ahead as I really am not a tech phobe person, if that is the right expression to use!So I wanted something that was not complicated and also - far more importantly - something that was not too big on my tiny wrist as some of these smart watches are just massive and would actually cover the whole of my wrist which would not be good!Bearing all of this in mind I was drawn to the Garmin Vivosmart 5 as it seemed to do all the "things" that my trusted old Fitbit used to do and it looked nice and small on my tiny wrist. This was a huge decision for me but now I am a good 3 weeks into this and it is just utterly amazing - i love it. OK I probably don't understand everything that the different reports tell me but I was expecting that.I did have an issue to begin with because I purchased one which must have been faulty as it suddenly stopped reading the heartbeat so that was returned and a replacement item was sent out the same day which was utterly amazing service. This one seems to be working just fine, so fingers crossed that it does not go wrong. Hopefully not.It took me a while to get used to the screen on the App but when i had to set up the replacement Vivosmart I set everything up slightly differently and so this seems to be working much, much better for me. In fact I am so impressed that I am waiting for my husband's Fitbit to go wrong so that we can change him over to a Garmin Vivosmart 5 too. I am well pleased with this fitness tracker, it does much more than I ever thought it would and I have got used to it so quickly as I was so worried that it would be too complicated and too difficult to operate - but it is just great with the little tap button on the top of the actual tracker.Thoroughly recommend this item if you want something good but easy to operate and easy to understand.

Having bought the vivosmart5 over my previous vivosmart4, I'm disappointed by the fact I need to recharge nearly everyday.I've now closed a number of 'Wanted' notifications in the hope that this will prelong the battery life. Time will tell.

Great for the price
This is great for basic health monitoring, heart rate and sleep - excellent feature for strength training with counting reps which is accurate most of the time, the pulse ox meter is also useful for checking your oxygen levels. It obviously does not have GPS function, so you must carry your phone with you if you wanting to map and record distance for an activity. I bought this watch because I already own an Edge 540 for my bike rides and therefore didn't want the GPS function. I do wish that it would read a Heart rate strap for more accurate results when running. All in all a good watch for the price.

Faulty Garmin & poor service
Garmin was good until it stopped working after just 3 months. Sent it back for repair, repair was received ( as evidenced by Royal Mail and Amazon account) and have heard nothing since. Have been waiting a month. No way of contacting them at all. Do not risk buying .

Good Basic Fitness watch
The watch isn't bad and functions as intended, but some of the features aren't as good as other makes and for around the same price you could buy a Fitbit where the features and functionality are superior and easier to use.

Simple, neat, compact
Whilst not as compact as the V4, see the photos, this is still a neat, simple and compact device. My V4 is worn out, in every sense. After market testing the latest crop this was a clear winner. The strap is less rubbery, making it more secure without sacrificing comfort. Aided busy the broader strap that also increases stability. The display is a big improvement, as is functionality with a physical button improving accuracy and reducing consumer stress! As an existing user swapping to this primary device was simplicity itself. If you like health stats, hate bling, and love light-weight comfort, I'd recommend it.
