This does not work in the UK
This does not work in the UK as the frequency is the same as the emergency services. Do not purchase as it has to be returned to the US which is a complete nightmare.

Great All Around Product
Excellent design and performance. I am an electrical engineer who worked for Motorola and EF Johnson for many years designing public safety, law enforcement and military grade portable radio equipment.I hike with my dog 2hrs every day rain or sun starting before sunrise. I hike on logging roads, hiking and biking trails in western Washington and the terrain is hilly and there are areas where the trees have been clear cut but areas where trees are extremely dense plus brush. My dog is a 2yo Germ Shep/Husky with strong prey drive & never tires. Frequently chases deer, coyote, black bear and rabbits. Stays 200yds ahead of me to avoid my scent and noise so when he takes off I have no idea of the direction. The Alpha 200 and 15x collar performs amazingly in rain or dry conditions. The collar battery life is phenomenal and it transmits its status to the handheld unit. The handheld for me usually is at half capacity after 3.5hrs per the battery icon. The accuracy and tracking in the heavy woods is excellent even when we are separated by a hill. I was worried the GPS wouldn't do well in woods, but they must have put a great GPS antenna on the collar and the unit; it seems better than my cell phone that uses GPS assist from the cell tower GPS to penetrate buildings and tree cover better but I have no cell coverage in the woods to compare directly.I think VHF radio band Garmin uses is the optimal band for propagating in hills and trees because its lower transmit/receive frequencies propagate better than say cell bands at 800-900MHz or UHF. Low Band (LB) might be better range but the antennas would be much bigger so Garmin picked the best band available for that tradeoff. Regarding the range I was told most hunters report a 1-1.5mi in hilly and wooded conditions. My dog has been 1700yards away in the woods (plus hills and valleys) and it tracked like a champ. The user interface is really good...and what the documentation didn't cover I was able to chat with a person online that was extremely informative and knew the product well. The auto zoom feature keeps the dogs and the handheld on the screen and adjusts on the fly or you can configure for one or the other. I am over 60yo and the display could be brighter - perhaps that is settable in the user interface, but I haven't found it yet. The screen easily zooms using two fingers as with most cell phones. The maps they provide are fantastic. All the logging roads near me are mapped and labelled plus all the hiking and biking trails. I was very pleasantly surprised as it has trails I didn't know were there and so has expanded my hiking range. The collar seems very mechanically solid. My dog has managed to lose two military grade harnesses on these hikes in the brush and woods. This collar seems to have no such issues. The handset mechanics are similarly well designed and handle the muck and water I hike in well.I don't use the training features so I have no feedback there. The only thing I could complain about it the belt clip is small and doesn't clamp all the way around any of my standard sized belts. It also broke this morning (pic shows plastic piece that popped out which held the clip in the belt clamp portion. I have ordered the spine belt clip from Garmin because customer service thought it might be slightly longer. This is my favorite product that I have bought in years.

Do Not Buy to use in Australia
Do not buy if you want to use it in Australia. Frequencies are wrong - will not work. Frequencies cannot be changed to work in Australia. Operates in the wrong part of the radio spectrum.
