FAMILY OF LIARS

This is the prequel to We Were Liars and is about Carrie, Johnny's mother. Johnny asks his mother what's the worst thing she has ever done and then she starts narrating the story.We go back into the private island on a coast of Massachusetts where the Sinclairs live: Harris and Tipper Sinclair and their three daughters, Carrie, Penny, and Bess. The story that Carrie is narrating is set in a summer when they were all teenagers. That was the summer she met Pfeff.Carrie is dealing with a lot. She lost her sister recently and had a jaw surgery and is starting to take pills more than required. That summer her uncle and his daughter Yardley visits them and along with them are unexpected guests, Yardley's boyfriend George, and his friends, Major and Pfeff. And Carrie and Pfeff starts a romantic relationship.I enjoyed reading this book, especially the second half got better than the first half. All the characters were not too likeable and I liked that about the characters. In that way they all felt realistic and humane. Every character seemed flawed and made mistakes. Carrie's sisters weren't particularly good either, but neither was Carrie.What I liked the most about this book is the atmosphere: set in a remote island in the summer. The summer vibes are immaculate!I think I liked the first book better than this one. But this was also a good book and I am glad to know Carrie's story. I'd definitely recommend this book if you liked We Were Liars or if you like to read about rich people drama.

I dont want to give spoilers but for those who have read “we were liars” i recommend getting this if you want more of that mystery with E. Lockhart’s usual writing where we think one thing and it’s an unthinkable. For those who haven’t read “We were Liars,” I recommend checking it out first as it blends better into this one. The book itself is good and came shipped with protection and love.

After reading We Were Liars it left me wanting more context……this book is the icing on the cake! All is explained with a compelling story of family secrets! I love these books
