Inexpensive headlight for enhanced safety
First of all, I don't ride my bike in the dark, so I am not evaluating its use at night. However, when I drive my car, I have appreciated seeing bicyclists who use flashing lights, front and back during daylight hours. Relatively recently, I finally added the Blackburn Local Bike Front Light to both my wife's and my bicycles. I now feel that we have enhanced our safety for daylight riding. One thing about this light: when you attempt to insert new batteries, make sure that lock is twisted open until it clicks. Otherwise, it will not lock when you attempt to close it and, like me, you may think that it is broken. Yes, I now have a spare light, because I didn't realize this until I bought a replacement. I guess that is another endorsement of my satisfaction with this light.

Very good commuter bike light
Good little light. Although the part with the stretchy band is supposed to stay on your handlebars and you clip/unclip the light from it, I've always found it easier to use the stretchy band to put it on or take it off of the handlebars - this turns out to have one good virtue: Without the fixture on the handlebars, no one knows if you might have a neat-o light set stashed away in your pannier/bag so it helps a lot for theft avoidance.I've used this light for well over a year, only losing it a few days ago when I left it on in the daytime, parked my bike by a local dept. store and when I came out, it was gone. Thanks Amazon Prime for getting me another one in 2 days! But more about the light. It puts out a fair amount of light (there are higher wattage versions too) and I feel it's outstanding for the price. It's rugged enough, and while the way the batteries are put in is quirky, it seems to work OK.About how the batteries are installed ... there's nothing about it in the instructions but the two on the top go positive side in, and the one on the bottom go positive side out. You then hold the end cap down (it's spring loaded) and use a coin to rotate the little Blackburn symbol to lock it into place. The batteries it comes with don't last long but some good alkalines last a long time. This is available as a set with a tail-light and I highly recommend the set.

Arrived with corroded batteries and possibly defective cover
This wasn't working when it arrived. It's been too snowy and icy for biking, so unfortunately I didn't figure out the problem before the return/exchange window had closed. Thanks to user reviews on this page, I got the battery case open, only to discover that the batteries were corroded. Got the batteries changed, and the light works—but it took probably 20 tries to get the cover to lock shut again. (I took it off and watched the inside while I turned the logo. The locking mechanism was sticking in the unlatched position.) I've had several Blackburn lights over the years. They're usually great. Hoping this is a one-time lapse.

I can easily remove it
Previous one was stolen, so whenever I leave the bike, even for a moment, I can easily remove it, put it in my pocket, and take it with me.

Goes off on bumpy roads
I have tried two of these (one bought, one a gift), and after maybe two months of use each started going off when shaken due to road bumps. Must have been a faulty connection somewhere. Lokking elsewhere for my next one.

Good value for brightness.
Bright beam, reasonable price, compact. Two power levels + flashing mode. You have to twist the Blackburn logo anti-clockwise on the battery cover to undo, when it gets to its end-stop twist a little harder and it will click and open. Clockwise to retighten, past the end 'stop' and (again) until it clicks closed. Had me bemused for a while as I didn't want to force this plastic part and risk breaking it.
