Walensee 39in Serrated Steel Scythe, Grass Whip for Tall Grass & Weeds

Using a simple weed whip is a lost art. I like these for several reasons they are light and easy to handle they don’t burn fuel or need recharging they don’t sling grass and weed debris all over your body I could use this in a suit and not get messy out here in the country we have ticks and chiggers string trimmer’s will sling those little critters all over you. Now you will still need the string trimmer for certain areas you can’t get to but overall I like these simple weed wackers.

This thing sucks. Easy assembly but it doesn’t meaningfully or usefully help with cutting grass, bushes or weeds. It works as well as a golf club.

I have read negative reviews with reasons that are hard for me to fathom and other reasons that are mistakenly bogus. Here are some useful tips. 1. Remember that YOU are the most important part of this tool. 2. Learn how to use it. a. With heavy dense grass or thin vines angle the tip of your blade away from your strike by as much as 45*. This allows the blade to pass over the density like a saw, easing its passage. b. DON't try to chop tree stems (or rocks) of any size with this tool, They are too strong and dense. c. DO sharpen the blade on both sides and only on the TOP of the blade at 45* down with a fine metal file after each use. Forget the kerfs. 3. Several light to medium passes are easier and faster than one massive chopping action. This tool is NOT a machete or an axe. DON'T try to use it that way. Decades ago this type of tool was lovingly called a "swish stick" by those who used them every day. They had smooth blades that were razor sharp and one worker could knock down a field of weeds and overgrowth with one in less than a day's moderate work. The only issue for me is that I was one of the old school who used a swish stick regularly and I don't like the serrated blade on this one or any of the others. Sadly, the working days of our swish stick finally ended with a fatigued and broken blade. PS. Be sure to use the red thread lock liquid that's included when installing the handle and hold your swish stick firmly but not over tightly while working. That way, both you and your tool won't become over tired or hurt too soon. Overall, this tool is well suited to its purpose and well made and I feel comfortable recommending it. Have fun.

The actual shape and weight is good. Unfortunately it came with a huge dent in one of the serrated edges. The steel seems really soft so it was probably an accident. Luckily I'm a knife guy and just hammered and sharpened it again but very few people would do that. * Pros. - I like the balance, it's center of Mass is just slightly in front of the hands - ease of use, a little practice and it's quite handy to be able to grab with zero set up - good when you're near a car or window and don't want to make a mess or fluck stones around * Cons. ( recommended improvements) - the coating on the blades just make it harder the insight sharpen, i took my diamond stone and sharpened it and removed the coating - the blade steel could be better, something that can hold the edge better. The shape and geometry of the blade is fine. Just wish it was better steel because you're swinging this thing around so it's pretty easy to chip. This would make it more expensive, perhaps release a PRO version - a sheath in addition would be nice, for transporting to protect the edges - you could even make the back slightly heavier so that the center of mass is close to the back towards your hands like a sword. Which would make it even easier to handle. (Though it isn't bad where it is now) This came sooooo close. Just needs a few tweaks

Cheap. Not terribly sharp. If you can swing it hard enough gets job done. Used it to clear back half of chicken run overgrowth with weeds. Pics attached. As you can see the tool bent under chopping pressure on field weeds. I definitely wouldn’t recommend it to anyone Poorly made junk really

Easy to assemble, and use. It won't be able to cut wood, or branches.

Great scythe. Just right length & weight. Sharp enough for heavy weeds. Great price.

More effort needed than I thought but a very useful product.

We live on acreage and cut about 5 acres of the field around us. At one point it was a farmer's field but over the last 13 years it is slowly starting to fill in with grass. There are several treed areas in and around the 5 acres that require a little extra work and equipment to get the grass cut and so we ordered this double-edged grass whip. This grass whip is 48" long, has an 8" long double-edged serrated blade, and a T style soft rubber grip. The steel blade is precision sharpened, durable, and rust resistant. The tool itself resembles a golf putter and works very well. It's light weight and the grip is quite comfortable. The double edge serrated blade allows you to cut the grass on both your forehand and backhand swings. We have a gas-powered whipper snipper as well as a scythe that we use to cut the tall grass and weeds but both of them have their faults. The whipper snipper is quite heavy and the scythe is just too big for some areas whereas this grass whip is the perfect tool for the job. For instance, because we live on a dirt road our ditches and fence line need to be cut down a couple of times a year. Our mower isn't good for this, the whipper snipper is too heavy, the scythe is too big, but the grass whip is perfect. It easily cuts down the tall grass and weeds and is perfect for uneven ground. This grass whip is the perfect addition to our garden tool set

Moved into a new home with a badly unmaintained yard. I prefer manual work to gas-powered so my reel mower just choked on the junk weeds and seed-grass. Ordered this product in spite of some bad reviews and was extremely satisfied. It is about the size and shape of an unusual putter, with the same grip and swing - so GREAT for golfers! It is not effortless, of course, because it isn't a "frikken lazer"; it's a hand-powered scythe. I suspect many of the low-ranked posts here need to understand this better. This is of higher quality than the ones I grew up with but like other (experienced) posters, I suspect that if it were not serrated, I could sharpen the blade for a more effortless cut. The serrations are beneficial for lazy folks who don't like to sharpen their tools, but are a compromise that I find problematic. Were I to give one piece of advice it would be to offer a non-serrated option. Other than that, this tool has exceeded my expectation.

Sadly a waste of money, unless u can swing like the hulk…. Did very little… after swing thru weeds 10 times. Tossing in the bin.
