5000 Dust Solution for Miter Saws, Silver

My only regret is not ordering this unit four years ago viewing YouTuber Rob Cosman demonstrating it on his woodworking channel! Literally mounts in minutes to ANY chop saw (Mitabo). The four inch dust port makes the vacuum portion work properly, containing 95% of dust.

I couldn't be more impressed with how well this works. I have this mounted on a Ridgid 10" compound miter saw. Before my workshop full of Man Tools was always polluted with saw dust, every surface high and low would continue their dusty progression. Dust would be tracked upstairs to the woman areas which was putting a negative effect on the sammich production.Not any more. This hood catches 99% of saw dust, there are only minute amounts on the floor now. The majority of sawdust from a miter saw comes out the sides of the blade, so your bag or even a vacuum attachment is only catching a small amount.Overall performance: ExcellentInstallation: Head scratcher. The directions are pointless, there are no examples of this being attached to your particular saw, and my google machine was not hitting on any Ridgid mounts. I scratched my head for a while making sure whatever it was mounted to still allowed for all cuts, even bevel. After what seemed like forever it finally came to me, hopefully the pictures attached to this review will help other Ridgid saw owners.Range of Saw Motion: 95% still workable. There is only one 45° compound bevel cut to the left that can not be made with my current mount setup. So only if I have to fully extend the saw which is only on large moldings. But that same cut can be made on the right side.Overall: 4.9 stars. Directions and their youtube video are trash.It is mounted to a 2.5" dedicated Ridgid shop vac with an iVac Automated Vacuum Switch which is a dream come true. Saw turns on, shop vac turns on 2 seconds later, saw turns off, shop vac turns off 8 seconds later. I used a 4" fernco coupling and Woodstock W1044 4-to-2-1/2-Inch ReducerThe construction seems very strong which relates in the price. If you want a clean workshop or jobsite this is for you.

Spendy for fabric and a few brackets. . Pro: It does collect most of the fine dangerous dust. Cons: It didn’t catch an impressive amount of the bigger dust. I choked off the huge hole by putting up some cardboard for air velocity. I added a shop vac directly to the saw’s bag hole. worked much better.This is as good as it gets think for a chop saw.

The only thing in my shop dustier than my miter was the router, when being used free-hand.I have top notch sanders with dust collectors and a sanding station with top, back and sides [anything without them is working at 20% efficiency]. The jointer, planer, routing table, band saws and other things have fair dust collection, but the miter, an often used tool, was a pain to collect dust from.An old cover from a projection television worked, but was bulky. This solved that problem, collects dust well, is light and still allows me to use the collector.A couple weeks in use and the inch of dust behind the saw has shown no signs of trying to return.I did have to play to get it installed to my satisfaction, but designing something like this for every miter and stand out there would be just short of impossible.The only design problem I saw was, the dust collector would pull some of the hood into the exhaust port, plugging it. I solved that problem with a piece of scrap 3/8 plywood about 5-1/2" wide and about 20" long. I cut a hole the same size as the port in the center, then hot glued around the port.I tried to keep the glue off the hood glue off the hood material and on the port, in case the material might melt, but which did not turn out to be a problem. Of course, you could also use silicon caulk.Installed and operating, the hood works great. Now I just need to add lights and a switch.

Setup was easy. I lined up the mounting brackets just behind the fence and that worked well. I’d say it catches about 90% of dust/debris, which I think is pretty great. I was cutting LVT, which is super messy and it definitely helped a ton. And I didn’t have a vacuum set up, just a bucket and gravity.

The mounting hardware this came with, It’s almost like they threw in some nuts and bolts and left me to figure it out. The product sheet for installation is ridiculous. I went out and got extra nuts and bolts and figured out a set up method that works for me.It’s functional now.

Overall, this product is extremely well made. I would overall recommend it to anybody. I go through about 50 pounds of dust per year. Should’ve got this 15 years ago. Now, I wish they would just make cars like this now too.

Just got it and set it up on my miter saw. A little tricky mounting it by myself, but got it done. Unfortunately, it cannot take the suction from my 2hp canister dust collector and the vacuum hose adapter is too big for my Fein shop vac hose. But using a different hose and some Fernco adapters, I got it rigged up. Works better than the big plastic tote I had set up on a moveable base to run off the DC and doesn't require moving it around if I go to an angle cut. Wrestling it back into the bag takes some effort, but it goes back in thereby taking up a lot less floor space than my tote box system did. Bag actually hangs on my folded saw cart. Might add another carriage bolt fastener to the supports to give it a little more support, though.
