After recording the Egg Hunt songs Ian MacKaye and Jeff Nelson (who played together in Minor Threat and Teen Idles) considered forminga new band. They played with Geoff Turner and Steve Niles of the recently disbanded Gray Matter. Ian decided to leave and eventuallyformed Fugazi but the others carried on, and soon added Gray Matter guitarist, Mark Haggerty, and this line-up would become Three.Three did a few short tours, and recorded at Geoff's home studio as well as Inner Ear. Things were looking up for them, but the band selfdestructedshortly before releasing Dark Days Coming in November 1989. The 12 LP includes songs from the Inner Ear recordingwhile the CD also includes 11 extra tracks from the band s home recordings.

When emo was....
This band along with Fugazi, were of the first bands I heard way back when, when I started getting out of my punk/hardcore stages, and started listening to post-punk (how logical!)An incredibale display of classic DC emo styled music, caressed by vocals that are very similar to those of James Mercer of The Shins. An album that still holds up, and should be a part of any Dischord collection.

some of the early starts of what we call emo today!!!
well to be honest i only have this on album and i cant reveiw the second half of it but the first half gets 5 stars definately, well this is just another chapter in the long years of dischord records it features 3/4 of what would become gray matter and our favorite straigh edge drummer from minor threat jeff nelson his quick boombastic hope skip beats keep this album rocking even during the sensative mello songs..so this is a very mature album that to me ranks up there with either rites of spring, dag nasty or embrace.very catchy songs you can sing along to and i mix of mellow and raw power energy throw in a little acoustic and funn.i guess by todays standards it would be a classic emo rock album but the only difference its alot better then todays standards.just a good album highly recommended!!!

In the spirit of Dischord
I bought this years ago on tape. It warped and I have been looking for it ever since! I was so excited to find it at Amazon! The CD is much better than the tape. It includes additional songs from their demo. Swann Street is one of my all time favorite songs. Three is mello with a rough edge. Toad the Wet Sprocket meets Fugazi. What more could you ask for?

excellent
its amazing how a CD that is over a decade old can still school every band in its genre years after its initial release. This CD is one of those CDs, Its just insanely catchy, and is really one of the most underappreciated CDs ever. "Swann Street" is genius. For fans of Dischord in general and poppy-punk (not emo, not crappy, not bubblegum)
