Is the pivot frozen or are they just locked shut? The protrusions between the loops have teeth so you can lock the forceps shut. Simply squeeze the loops together slightly and twist your fingers to unlock them.

Q: Can this be used for fire cupping therapy

The rough grind of the clasp might make the cotton swab stick to the jaws a little, but otherwise it would be fine.

Q: does the inside of these have ridges for gripping?

Yes, it doesn't show up well in the picture, but they've got some small teeth on them. About an inch of gripping surface on the inside-edge of each side.
