Not impressed!
As a true Wisconsin cheesehead who loves mac & cheese, I was very excited to try the recipes in this book (Mac & Cheese by Ellen Brown, Copyright 2012)!! Full disclosure: I've only tried ONE of the recipes thus far, but based on that experience I may get rid of the book, so I thought I'd better review it now. The issues I had with the recipe:1-First underlined part in the pictures---it tells us what to do with the first half of the onions, but never tells us what to do with the other half!! I was afraid to use all of the onion, based on the "1/2", but I wish I had--it could have used more.2-Second underlined part in the pictures--"and the crumbs on top". What crumbs on top? Does she mean the grated Chihuahua cheese? Because there is no call for bread crumbs in this recipe, which I belatedly realized after doing my grocery shopping. LUCKILY (because I love, love bread crumbs on top of most m & c recipes) I had some on had, so I did sprinkle bread crumbs (mixed with melted butter) on top prior to baking3-MOST IMPORTANT: The recipe was rather dry, especially when reheated4-LEAST IMPORTANT: It would've been nice to have all of the ingredients on one page, so I could take a pic of or make a copy of the ONE page before heading to the store.Again, definitely NOT impressed. I can't recall ever seeing errors like #s 1 and 2 above in any recipe book, much less two in one recipe, and the very first recipe I randomly chose to make.

Great cooking book
I was given a hard copy by a friend for my birthday and all the recipes have been such a hit at our dinner and a movie night that I got it on Kindle so I would have it when I am visiting my family as they have asked me to make recipes out of there. As my friend who gave me the book has stated, it was the gift that keeps on giving. I haven't made EVERY recipe yet, but I would say that I have made almost half of them. The first time I make a recipe I make it just like the book says (very rare for me but my husband and friends are telling me I need to reproduce what I make) and everyone turned out perfect. I have a large collection of cooking books and hate it when you follow the recipe and it doesn't turn out or you get half way through the recipe and discover they left out something.

Imaginative
If you like comfort food you have come to the right place.Hard to get bored flipping through these recipes, this is way past the blue box and some Velveeta =)As cookbooks go, it is not a stunning piece of design but it is functional and tells you what you need to know. I appreciate that the recipes are not unnecessarily complex. We are talking mac cheese so it shouldn't be...Giving it a 4 only because I don't want to communicate that this is an absolute must have. Here's the real key - IMO you have to like to play with upscale ingredients to enjoy it,

MAC & CHEESE by Ellen Brown
With winter coming this is the perfect book to bridge the weather. First of all, I like to prepare in advance and these are the best recipes for the compulsively prepared cook. You can have all of the ingredients in the house, prep the recipe when you feel like it and cook it right before company comes. Now, I know that some cooks use "mac & cheese" as a appetizer, but I think that these flavorful and satisfying dishes are really the centerpiece of the meal. Put a salad next to it and some fruit after and you have created a really elegant meal, with no fuss, no anxiety and great panache. This is a great book for busy cooks who want ELEGANT AND DELICIOUS results.

Seafood Elevates Mac and Cheese to a Dinner for Guests
Another Ellen Brown Cookbook and after Scoop, the definitive ice cream cookbook, I had to buy this too!I bought it the week before I was having a dinner party, and after trying a few of the dises I knew it was a winner. The recipes are all clearly written, and she includes so much good information about cooking in general that I know I'm becoming a better cook for reading it. Lobster with mac and cheese - how could I miss? And I didn't, everyone loved it and wanted the recipe. I was surprised how little lobster it required for such a deeply satisfying taste. It gets five stars hands down. Now I can't wait to try the hors d'oeuvers. Yummy!

Fun and Fantastic Recipes.
I decided to purchase this cookbook after I saw it featured on one of my favorite cooking blogs. A cookbook that had over 80 different takes on my favorite food caught my eye immediately. This book has several recipes, ranging from classic to more modern takes on everyone's favorite comfort food. It's definitely for the more adventurous chef. My boyfriend, who likes more classic recipes, thought many of these versions were a little too creative for his taste.I would recommend this cookbook to everyone who enjoys macaroni and cheese, and isn't afraid of a little adventure!

The recipes are creative!
I like this cookbook a lot especially since my son hates Kraft Dinner. It will give me a chance to show him how yummy mac and cheese can be.
