Both a must-read!!!
Great book real page turner-almost done with Sweet Water by Christina Baker Klein-then will read In Country by Bobbie Ann Mason-I did start to read it when I was in convalescent home but disappeared!! So I got another-love these books! I heartily recommend these two

Post-Vietnam identity Crisis
This book was written in 1984/5 and gives a view of the USA from the eyes of a teenage girl whose father died in the Vietnam War before she was born. It deals with many heavy issues (social and political) without feeling too heavy. This is done by an inordinate amount of pop culture references throughout the novel. It's a very thought-provoking work.

I really enjoyed this book
I really enjoyed this book, In Country gives you the perspective of life from a teenage girls point of view, from the loss of her Father in Vietnam before her birth to the typical trials and tribulations of growing up in a not so perfect home.Bobbie Ann Mason touches on so many issues here and the ending was perfect in my opinion, I would in fact recommend this novel for any of my friends to enjoy.

Highly recommneded
This is a fantastic book. It was required reading for a class but I ended up enjoying the book immensely. It would help someone see the effects of PTSD on other members of the family besides the one suffering with it. I like the way the author writes and it was an easy read.

Moving, deeply moving.
Superb showing, telling how Vietnam affected ordinary people...The people in this book struggle to come to terms with how the war affected them.

In Country: a novel
This is a great book for those who love veteran stories. It comes from the perspective of a girl who has lost her father and you instantly fall in love with the characters. Truly a must read.

Good quality read.
Bought the book because I enjoyed the movie. As hoped, the novel gave a deeper insight into the characters & dug further into their backgrounds.Well written & nice to see the issues of Vietnam dealt with in an intelligent, non - overly dramatic way .Felt like I was reading about real people.

a fresh point-of-view for an anti-war novel
I think this book was great in terms of showing how the devastation of war can be seen in the next generation or in those who were left behind. I found it very rich, the more you think about it, the more points the novel seems to make. It takes the point of view of a child, a teenager, a wife, a veteran, a woman... I think if you're going to read a novel and judge the characters for their mistakes and short-comings, you're doing the whole reading thing wrong, and you probably only enjoy popular culture books filled with perfectly melancholic and handsome vampires. This is a good book. It's easy to read, not boring and food for thought.
