From her wild and idealistic roots as a hippie in Copenhagen, the film follows Hannah and her husband Ole to the hedonistic city of Kathmandu, where in 1968 they became two of the first Western students of His Holiness the 16th Karmapa the first consciously reincarnated lama of Tibet, and the man who would change their lives forever. At the heart of the film lies the unique and inspiring love story of Hannah and Ole and their unwavering dedication to bring Buddhism to the West. From Europe and North America, through the fall of communism in Eastern Europe and Russia, to being kidnapped by guerrillas in South America, the film portrays the path of a great woman at the forefront of a turbulent, ever-changing world.

Real life Tibetan journey
This documentary is brilliant on so many levels. Foremost it gives insight into Tibetan life and spiritual practices! It shows the karisma of the 16th Karmapa, and the reverence felt towards this Tibetan Spiritual Leader. It reveals the genuinely beautiful love relationship between Ole and Hannah Nydahl while alsodemonstrating Hannah's pioneering role in spreading Tibetan Buddhism around much of our World! The filmanswers "most " if not all of the controversy surroundingthe selection of the 17th Karmapa. Additionally, we see Hannah applying the Buddhist principles under many taxing 'real life' circumstances, and particularly her demonstration of how to die with grace and dignity! Iwas so 'drawn in', that i became part of the journey. TheTibetan people have been used and abused yet remainthe LOVELIEST people on the planet! A must see film!

True Dharma, Great Documentary
This documentary of how the Buddha Dharma unfolded, and was expressed through the lives of these pioneering teachers, close disciples of the 16th Karmapa, is very moving. While there is not much formal teaching per se, their lives are actually a great teaching of dharma. Its is exceptionally well made, and for anyone interested in deepening of compassion and wisdom it is very highly recommended. Thank you Hannah, Ole, and film makers!

How Buddhism came to the West.
This is a unique story. A real life adventure, rooted in a fascinating spirituality, with political intrigue (China) that continues to this day. It’s also a love story between 2 Danish hippies who go on to direct unrelenting energy towards cultivating an international movement of Buddhism in the West. If you like international travel, the history of cultures, or how Buddhism came to the West I’d recommend this movie.
