How to Hug a Pufferfish

Great Book!
I used this book for my kinder kids to help them understand boundaries! We have a teacher next door to us who has medical issues, so this book was a definite help! My kiddos now understand that everyone has a puffer fish that can blow up when they get stressed and that means they need to leave them alone or find another way to communicate. It also teaches them that some people don't like hugs and that they should always ask. I bought copies for all my other team teachers. Cannot recommend it enough!

If you've ever wanted to hug a pufferfish, this is the book for you!
If you’ve ever wanted to hug a pufferfish, this is the book for you. I love the way it’s structured. First find out why they’re so huggable, but don’t forget . . . they have spikes. YIKES! If you still want that hug, listen to good advice, from the pufferfish himself. He knows exactly how he wants to be treated, and his tale is as much fun as the cover promises.

Beautiful and fun book with great message about boundaries!
What a lovely book! It's a story about a puffer fish who doesn't enjoy to be hugged. As the story unfolds, puffy's friends come up with other ways to greet the puffer fish, and puffy learns how to show her love for he awesome friends in her own creative way. My family enjoyed the story, the humor and the important message in the book.

Excellent read aloud.
Ms. Peterson did such a great job with this story. Her characters care for pufferfish, but they need to approach carefully. Lots of creative ideas to show kids how to honor boundaries and that "spiky" personality.

Kid-friendly exploration of consent
A kid-friendly exploration of consent presented as a light-hearted undersea adventure. Ellie Peterson's succinct, matter-of-fact text pairs perfectly with her cartoonish illustrations that gently remind kids that not everyone wants a hug and there are many other ways to say "I love you."
