Alessi DOP Whole Peeled San Marzano Tomatoes with Basil, 1.75 Pound (Pack of 12)

My package came very well packed, no dents. The expiration date was listed on outside of its carton, 2 yrs from date of purchase. But i also noticed later on that it is also stamped on the side of the can, in the black paper label. It helps bc once you destroy and throw out the brown box it comes in, you can't remember the expiration date as it is not stamped on the end of the can--in most cases that is, not this one! As a customer, I appreciate knowing that.It's a very good tasting sauce. Some canned whole tomatoes are packed in its own tomato juice, others with tomato puree. This brand is a cross between the two even though the label says tomato puree. Some other brands packed in puree are 'heavier and thicker.' I always need to add more liquid to it anyway to thin it out. I prefer a lighter sauce, that pours better, but that's just me. I always tweak canned tomatoes, any kind of canned tomatoes, with some salt and a bit of sugar, a bit of oregano and basil... Adding things such as sausages or meatballs only makes it better as it flavors the sauce as well. This sauce is good with stuffed peppers for a weeknight meal or to make a big pot of sauce for the holidays.

These are the best. San Marzano tomatoes are the best to cook just about anything. I use them for pizza and pasta sauce. The shipping was fast and the cans all came in perfect shape. Dented cans don't bother me anyway. They are not a problem. Bulged cans are another story. Those are the ones you want to stay away from. Anyway, these were perfect. Grazie!Ciao!

They sent crushed tomatoes. They’re about half the cost. They didn’t make it good. Some of the cans were dented. cento tomatoes are far superior.

Great flavor and price but every can was pretty bashed.

Each of the 12 cans arrived perfectly (no dents, no damage). The tomatoes are of excellent quality. Highly recommended!

These tomatoes have a great taste but out of the few cases I’ve ordered I don’t think I’ve gotten more than 2 or 3 cans per pack that aren’t dented and I generally have 1 can that is leaking as a result of taking a really hard corner hit.The manufacturer’s box is very thin and Amazon will use exactly zero packaging material when putting that into another box that is 3x the size it should be. It’s a miracle that the cops haven’t shown up because it looks like I’m receiving a box of dismembered body parts.Do yourself a favor, if you can buy these local, do it.

Excellent tasting authentic San Marzano tomatoes. We tried some with making spaghetti sauce the first day they arrived. All of the cans arrived in great condition, none were dented and they had a long expiration date. The price was super reasonable at $2.78 per 28 ounce can with free Prime shipping.
