Francesca Woodman

I discovered Francesca Woodman's work in a gallery during a Europe trip. Her vision and talent are of the highest order and are even more impressive given her youth. I shudder to think of the great artist she could've grown into, had she not died tragically at such a young age. This fall there was a showing of her work at a major museum in Milan which I believe has since traveled on to London. American connoisseurs of fine photography, however, will be greatly pleased to know that next year, 2011, the San Francisco Museum of modern Art will host a major retrospective of her work and in 2012 this show will move to the Guggenheim in New York city. I have seen the catalogs of her Milan show and it's very good but unfortunately I haven't been able to acquire a copy here in this country. But I suspect that the catalog that accompanies her American exhibitions will be quite good. But in the meantime, this is an excellent collection of her work.

What a Strange and eerie book. It gives me the Creeps, yet it is so fascinating.

great book, comprehensive

Though I have other books by Francesca Woodman, this one has several photos tI have not seen before and all her work is hauntingly beautiful. Also there is accompanying text that adds much more insight behind the creatively troubled mind. Fascinating!

The book is great, many photos I've never seen of the artist and by the artist. Also, lots of information on the artist's life including a section written by her father. The book took almost 2 months to deliver but this was the fault of the seller, not amazon. All in all, glad I bought this item.--nelle

I wanted this book for what seemed like ages and then when i finally had some spare cash i ordered it and was so excited i just could not wait for it to arrive. I was not disappointed, its an amazing book made to a very high standard its one to keep. Woodman's work is breath taking, google her name and you will get a taste of what this book has to offer. Every page is a new and wonderful surprise, she was a creative genius!

This is an excellent introduction to the work of Francesca Woodman. The reproduction of the photographs is excellent(for instance those recently on display at the Victoria Miro Gallery did not better them). The text is very good at providing context and background. Enigmatic images that stay in the mind. This book will leave you wanting to see more of the photographs that Francesca Woodman produced during her all but too brief life.

I am a fan of Woodman's work and the book shows her work, on quality paper, so one can see her progression and realise what could have been. If you are not sure this is for you, watch the documentary first. I would have liked more info on Francesca herself. The highbrow analysis at the beginning is a bit too long for my personal liking. However!! Do read it and check out all the names mentioned, thus meeting all sorts of other artists.
