Works on my pitbull with thick, brown nails
My pitbull is large and has thick nails, her nails fit in the openings of the PetExpert Dog Nail Grinder pretty snugly but it does fit. Due to her nail thickness it take quite a while to grind down so I will be using this for maintenance after getting her nails professionally cut. This Is just because I don't want to spend too long grinding them down, and she is a little wary about the new machine but she doesn't fight it much (your dog may differ). The machine itself is pretty quiet, more quiet than I thought it would be, so the sound won't traumatize your dog. The nail is left with a smooth finish and not sharp so long as you keep the proper 45 degree angle as mentioned in the product pictures.I recommend this for dog owners who are afraid to hurt the dog and for owners with dogs that have brown nails, making it difficult to tell if you are cutting too far.

It works!
Review for the PetExpert Dog Nail Grinder Portable: I was skeptical about the power of a battery operated grinder, but I didn't want the hassle of an electric grinder so I took a chance on this one and IT WORKS! I have two smaller dogs (13lbs and 18lbs) and while it takes patience on the dogs part to sit through the grinding, it's worth it in order to avoid the possible pain with clipping. I'd suggest a larger grinder for larger dogs, but this is perfect for mine.

Good for filing any rough or sharp edges on the dogs nails. Doesn't trim it like nail clippers just to let you know. It's more of an electric nail filer for dogs. It's quick, easy, painless and not too loud. My dog does just fine. Great product!

Not worth it
These things take forever to file the nail.... even on my little shihzu! It’s not worth the time! Get a better pair!

Nope.
We have a pug and this wasn't powerful enough to file his nails at all. Even tried putting in brand new batteries instead of the ones that came with it, but still no luck. Nice idea, but total fail.

I'd rather use a file blade
It's a feeble little thing that will take forever to grind even one nail on a lab sized dog. If you put enough pressure to start grinding, the device stalls. If you put less pressure to make it un-stall, it doesn't grind much at all.
