Life Changing
This book was introduced to me by a Penn Medicine Therapist who led me through the program, although the book is structured in a way that I believe lends itself to self learning.The methods employed require discipline and a good amount of work while not being overwhelming. I completed a chapter a week which required about 2 hours a week including reading the chapter and completing the forms for each chapterThe book is very empirical in nature requiring the reader to collect a lot of data; write down nature and causes of anxiety along with quantifying likelihood of occurrence and alternative outcomesI completed the book in 12 weeks. Since that time I have seen remarkable improvements in my mood and have internalized the methods taught to deal with anxiety as it arises. Highly recommended

An Effective & User-friendly Treatment
As a cognitive-behavioral therapist, I have used this workbook with several patients and highly recommend it to anyone who suffers from generalized anxiety disorder. The techniques presented within it are effective for up to 70% of social anxiety suffers and I can personal it attest that they have proven highly effective for all of my patients who have used it. Although best used in the course of treatment with a cognitive-behavioral therapist, individuals can effectively employ the techniques presented on their own. Techniques presented include: Challenging Dysfunctional Thoughts (specifically overestimating the probability that bad things will happen and underestimating your ability to cope), Physiological Relaxation (including progressive muscle relaxation), and imagery exposure (facing fears / worry through visual imagery in order to break the cycle of verbal worry and avoidance). This treatment program does require work and persistence, but the can have tremendous payoffs if followed.(The reviewer was compensated for posting this review. Helpful for GAD
As a person who has struggled with anxiety all my life, this book has been life changing! It helps you through easy steps to be a detective of your own anxiety and figure out what your triggers are and how to face them.

I found this book to be surprisingly effective!!! It trains you to "sit with your anxiety" instead of running away from it. The more you seem to "stew" in your anxiety, the easier it gets to accept it and move on with your life.

A lot of great techniques are offered in this book. If you actually keep up with it you can control your anxiety a lot better.

excellent livre pour traiter son anxiété
Ce livre est un manuel pratique pour traiter son anxiété généralisée. Il explique simplement et clairement ce qu'est l'anxiété et propose ensuite un traitement à faire soi même ou avec un thérapeute pour la surmonter.Le traitement est basé sur l'approche cognitive et comportementale (TCC) en y ajoutant une dimension physiologique. Les TCC évoluent et intègrent de plus en plus un travail sur les sensations physiologiques et les symptomes physiques du stress : tension musculaire, respiration courte, etc. Le modèle des années 80 mettant l'accent sur les cognitions et pensées change et s'ouvre.L'ouvrage est très précis et rigoureux, et s'appuie sur des protocoles thérapeutiques testés et restestés, qui permettent d'obtenir des taux de réussite élevés. L'anxiété disparaît complètement, ou tout au moins reste ensuite limitée à certaines situations et devient très gérable.L'ouvrage demande du travail car il faut noter sur une base quotidienne, les situations d'anxiété en mettant par écrit ses pensées associées négatives, ses comportements, et les symptômes physiques. A partir de ces informations, vous pouvez retravailler pour identifier les situations qui déclenchent l'anxiété chez vous, la façon dont vous gérez le stress, et les sensations physiques associées. Ensuite il s'agit de réévaluer les pensées conformément à l'approche TCC, changer petit à petit ses comportements qui entretiennent l'anxiété et apprendre à se relaxer et gérer ses symptômes pénibles par des moyens sains et naturels. En d'autres termes, arrêter de prendre de l'alcool, une cigarette ou un anxyolique, se jeter sur la nourriture ou s'abrutir de télé pour oublier.Un livre qui demande du travail, un effort, mais le résultat est à la clé. Je ne sais pas si l'équivalent existe en français. Je l'espère. A défaut, un bon livre pratique sur les TCC couplé à un ouvrage de techniques de relaxation (par exemple Le training autogène ) peut éventuellement donner des résultats équivalents.
