Crock arrived today in great shape packaging was perfect. I'm overall pleased with the purchase but have one minor complaint. The bottom is not quite level and it rocks back and forth slightly which is kind of annoying. The lid fits well and the weights are a good addition. I'm sure that it will make great kraut.

This is a great crock for fermenting vegetables in, I use it to make sauerkraut and then I can the kraut. The most important thing to know is that where you want to store should be the same place that you fill it up. It's a solid kind of heavy empty, and it's nearly impossible to move once it's loaded up with cabbage, salt, and water.

Fast shipping but was cracked on the side, the box looked fine, but the crock looks like the box might have been dropped on its side, we did not notice it till we had got it full of the brine and cucumbers, the salt in the brine is coming through the crack, have pictures. So know we need/have to order another one to move the contents into. But now it is going to cost an additional $20 because it is no longer available from the same seller.

My family has several large Schmitt crock; used mostly for making sauerkraut.

Received my crock in August in anticipation of Fall sauerkraut. After packing the crock in October my wife asked about the wet floor. Upon examination I found liquid weeping from a crack. This was not visible earlier. I've done what I could to seal the crack and save all of my work. We'll see if I was successful. Obviously too late to return it.
