I think it is a completely balanced food but you can use it as a topper. Most of the pieces are bigger than a topper would be and are similar to beef or turkey jerky. You can also use these as a treat to give them good healthy treats they will love. My dog's hair got soft and jet black and my dog that has had walking issues is getting so much better... I think this food is excellent and worth every penny.
